Some suggestion please!!!

I am trying to get suggestions for my wedding. We are thinking about a Destination Wedding because we could enjoy a mini vacation with our family and close friends, have a nice but casual ceremony, a great reception where everybody would have lots of fun. Because this is my 3rd and his 2nd and we are in our late fourties/early fifties with grown ups and teen kids, we want something chic, but not traditional and very meaningful. Our kids will be in the wedding party, but we won't have anything else particular like candle ceremony; we are very much like a family already and wouldn't make sense do this now, after so many years that we've been together. What do you think about a Spa with lunch for the women and scuba dive or other different sport for the men and in the night a lual dinner for everybody? I am sure I won't wear white, so I am looking for a long not bridal dress in pastel colors for me and I want short dresses for my BM. FI is very flexible and thinks that I have a better taste than he does and because of it, he relys on me for everything .I am sort of a professional, but my background is extremelly European and I am not sure how this will work with his family and my friends, mostly Americans...so far, every party that I organized my friends and him absolutely loved! So I have to trust my guts. Any other idea that you gentle ladies could give me I would appreciate very much. I'd love to organize something very American for my FI just to honour him and his family. Thanks for help me!!!

Have you considered Miami? There are tons of places you could get married and you could even find something with a European feel. There is no diving in Miami but the Keys are just a drive away.

As a girl from Louisiana I would always consider New Orleans as an ideal location. Diving would not be an option but the locations, food and scenery are amazing!

And it is super hot and humid in the summer for both locations so I would consider winter or spring.

    Welcome Leslyblanc.

I think what you describe is fine. Do you live in the DC area? We just returned from the DC area, and we loved Mt Vernon! They hold weddings at Mt Vernon. It can be elegant, "American" and feel European, because after all, George Washington modeled his home after European tastes. Not sure of the specifics for your guest count, etc, but some info here:

Your idea however, if it fits with your family & fiance, is fine as well. Not sure what month you are looking at, but keep in mind the weather when looking into destination locations. If every thing you've planned has been a hit, then I'm sure your wedding will be as well.

    Good luck.

spa, scuba, and luau? can i be invited??

Really nearly any beachy area can handle some variation of this. change 'scuba' to deep sea fishing if needed.

i think you are right - trust your instincts!

Thanks a lot for the suggestions ladies. We will get married in April, but despite loving DC area, where I live, I want to go somewhere tropical. I am seeing places in Miami (Delano Hotel with the infinit pool is just incredible), in Key West (still looking a place there) and Bahamas ( One and Only Resort) as well; this last one is my favorite, but I am still thinking about it because I have to take into consideration how far it would be for his 86 y.o. mother that lives in Iowa - reason that I had to give up on Hawaii. I am thinking about 25 to 30 people attending, but I will certainly organize somethig in Italy as well to my family and friends there (not in Tuscany, but in Como). Well, by now, I should have learned to make things simpler, but for some reason I have to try making them always very special and unique.(My FI always asks what's wrong with hot dogs and hamburguers...)
