Second Weddings

Reception: just cake and coffee

Has anyone been to a cake and coffee reception? This is both of our second wedding, we are both over 50. We want to be married in our beautiful church and just have a simple "reception" afterward with just a (fabulous) cake and coffee. Ideas to make it work - please!

Your idea sounds perfectly lovely! Nothing other than your desire and conviction in what you want are needed! Wishing you the very best in your planning!

    Absolutely!

In the south, we would add sweet tea, cheese wafers, nuts, mints, and for something really hearty... tiny ham bscuits!

I went to a friend's wedding and reception which was just cake and punch. It was great! We had a lot of fun.

Unless you're 100% sure all of your guests are coffee-drinkers (I am not) though, you may want to add a couple of other drink choices ... tea, water, lemonade. I think your idea sounds just fine. Enjoy!

Nothing wrong with a coffee and cake reception at all! But like previous posters have said you may want another beverage to be available to those who do not drink coffee.

    Happy planning!

Sounds great, esp. with a really delish cake! I'd add a couple of other beverages tho - tea, some sodas or lemonade. Maybe have some nuts, snacks as well.

I might add some tea sandwiches, possibly some other pastries (personally I don't like most wedding cakes) tea and I like the idea of lemonade. Simple and charming. I like it.

I agree with previous posters and my first thought was a cake/pastry "bar" with different beverages that go with cake or pastries, coffee, milk, tea, sodas, etc. Also, I agree with the off-meal times, I was thinking either mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Have fun!

[QUOTE]How about "slush" punch? Most people will drink that. Sherbet, ginger ale, punch bowl. Very simple. Down here we have a lot of Southern Baptist weddings, and their weddings are almost always afternoon weddings because they can't dance or serve alcohol. Their receptions are exactly what you're planning, perhaps with some nuts and mints or finger sandwiches. Everyone manages to have a wonderful time without the three-hour catered dinner.

And the punch has to match the bridesmaids dresses

That's exactly what I've been planning, but we're adding some light snacks (if I could spell hors d'oevres I'd say that! ) for our 3:00 p.m. wedding. Our thought is that afterwards we'll head out to dinner with immediate family, then call it a night but about 8:00. For me it just feels more intimate and romantic but that's just me.

Congrats too, enjoy the planning process and make it YOUR day! ~ J

[QUOTE]Muffin, that's just what most of them do!!!! The slush punch matches the wedding colors!!!

Okay, now you're making me want to go out and find a random woman to be a bridesmaid, just to put her in an orange dress to match slush punch. Or, maybe I'll just go to the grocery store and get slush punch ingredients. Hee hee!

But seriously, slush punch is good! Is there anything sweeter in the world?? Other than cotton candy? Yummy!!
