Older Brides - Hair accessories?

I'm over 50 and not sure what to do with my hair for the wedding. Not doing a veil... but should I do nothing?

Nothing is fine, unless you are having the ceremony of a religion that requires that women keep their heads covered.  However, if you want to have something, you might consider something like a birdcage veil or a fascinator.  Either could be very elegant, although less traditionally bridal.

My sister bought me a little comb - goes nicely with my dress, and no big deal to tuck it in....

Or think about a hat. I'm 40 and am leaning toward a little pillbox hat with a birdcage veil. I also have the issue of having short hair, so this seems like the only real alternative.

Is your hair long or short?  They sell some very pretty blinged hair pins, that you can use with an updo.  I love the comb idea as well.  I 44 and I am going to use a small tiara type headband.

I've got hair that comes just to my chin - and while I had an updo for my future stepdaughter's wedding, didn't plan to do that for my own wedding. I think I like the idea of a pretty comb.

Before going crazy with online viewing, check Claire's and Icing stores in the malls. Their prices are reasonable, and they have things just as nice as the bridal stores for 1/10th the price.

My hair is long, and I did half up/half down.  I got some of those picks with a single  rhinestone that looked really nice randomly placed all over.

A comb, hat or flower or even a headband are great alternatives to a veil, but if you don't want anything I think that's just fine too. Not sure of your dress or hair length - do you have pictures of either?

At 44, I went shopping at Claire's for my hair jewels.  There were under $10, addd a little sparkle, and if I lost them, no big deal.  They were cute, too. ~Donna

My religion (I'm Pagan) requires both parties to wear nothing on their heads, and to wear the hair down, as you don't want anything interfering between you and the Goddesses/Gods.  So, I wore nothing in my hair.  However, Pagan custom also recommends the bride wearing at least a bit of her hair in a braid, to signify the intertwining of the couple. so, I wore mine down, with a small braid at the side/back of my neck. It's visible in a few of the pictures, but not all.

I think how you wear your hair, unless, like me, you're following a relgious tradition, is up to what looks good on you and with your outfit.

I'm thinking of a loose grecian type up-do with flowers in the back--white, with a light/teal blue dress, white bouquet

Hair too short for anything but a fancy bobby pin.  My stylist recommended Claire's as well.

I had originally wanted a Grecian type-do to go with my Grecian inspired dress (my hair would have been mostly down, but had a braid.  Win-win!) but when I went and had a trial, she straightened my hair then re-curled it. Um, no.  My hair is already curly, so I'm not sure why she felt she needed to do that.  Anyway, I'm glad I had the trial, because it looked hideous on me.  I just don't have the features to carry that off.

There are pics of Angelina Jolie in the movie Troy that you could use as inspiration.  Also, the HBO miniseries Rome that has a bunch of the ladies with Grecian hair-dos.

I am just dressing up my hair by having a nice updo. I will probably opt for a nice rhinestone /pearl clip. I'm going to look for a simple hair accessory at Claire's or Charming Charlies.

My aunt (54) is getting married this fall, and will be wearing flowers in her hair.. she's going for a vintage Hollywood feel.  I'm also a 2nd time, "older" (I'm 31, but apparently anything over 30 is "older"..) bride, and will also be opting for flowers in my hair, but mine will be a tropical look. :)

Otherwise, there are lots of lovely sparkly hairpins and combs out there that would be pretty :)

No hair accessories for me.  I have an outstanding, super short hair cut (if I do say so myself!) and would ruin it by putting anything in or on it.

    Cheers!

I'm struggling with this whole thing myself. I just bought a barette with 3 ivory silk flowers and pearls/ rhinestones in it, and am now wondering if it's age appropriate (I'm 56), and wether it will look good with my chin length  bob! I was thinking of wearing it to pull up one side to show off my earrings
