Second Weddings

Second Wedding for Both of Us

My name is Vanessa (28) and although my bf hasn't proposed I'm sure Serge (32) will within the next year.  We both agreed we'd like to get married 10/11/12 just because it's COOL!  I feel October is a nice cool month and the date falls on a Thursday so it won't be too expensive.

This will be a 2nd wedding for both of us.  He had a very BIG wedding 8 (or more) years ago and has made it very clear he didn't want to do it again.  My first wedding was very small but very enjoyable.  My family is VERY small (aunt, uncle, 3 brothers) so there probably won't be any more than 20 or so people there.

I found Chapel in the Skys (Las Vegas) when looking around this site.  The packages they offer seem really reasonable.  But, since our wedding would fall on a Thursday, I'm not sure if I'd want everyone who we would really want to be there to have to take off of work.  And, even if we bought the most expensive package (almost $3,000) that wouldn't include tax, gratuity, airfare & hotel expenses.

This is what I'm looking for: wonderful, professional photos, beautiful scenery, and a nice place to celebrate with friends afterwards.  So, now the more I think about it, I'm thinking we could hire a justice of peace, pick a nice spot in NYC to get married, hire a photographer all day and take everyone to a nice restaurant and/or lounge to celebrate.  I'm assuming even though our wedding wouldn't be formal, it would be our responsibility to foot the bill for the restaurant right?

Need all the help I can get Laughing

Yes, if you've asked people to be there, it's up to you to foot the restaurant bill.  Including drinks.

And forgive me if this isn't the case, but is this someone's AE?  My spidey-sense is on alert.

AE means alter ego.  Good cover to ask if it is an AE.  :-)

LOL true, but why would someone want an alter ego here?

To stir up stuff.  For MUD.  To call out others without giving up their real identity. I can think of a ton of stuff.  I know several here who have AEs, and I've figured out a few.  Not all, but some.

Seems so silly.  It's not like this is a dating site LOL it's a place where people can come to discuss their big day.

So, I agree that the dinner should be on our behalf, but as with a reception where some people at least pay for their plates, do people normally do that for dinners as well.  I know I shouldn't expect to get back what Serge and I pay for the dinner but just curious as to what people would normally do being invited to a "wedding celebration dinner" as opposed to an actual reception.

Thanks in advance for the advice. Embarassed

Whether a dinner or reception it is up to the bride and groom to foot the bill.

There are ways to mitigate costs though, you can ask that the wine be poured instead of having standing bottles on tables, if you are inclined to have wine or champagne. Another is to find out if they have a corkage fee, if you were to bring your own wine. You can ask the restuarant manager if they offer a special menu for large groups.
