so this is my second marriage and my fiance's third marriage. My first wedding was an elopement when I was in a mental crisis. His first wedding was just family at his house and his second wedding was a courthouse wedding. I am wondering if it would be tacky for us to have a big wedding back where I grew up, in the church I grew up going to, with a huge reception.

If you want a big church wedding, go right ahead!  People often try to have an encore wedding as much different from the first wedding as possible.  So if the first one was the huge formal one, they might prefer something more intimate for a second one.  But in your case, a huge formal one would be the most different from your prior weddings.  So if that's what you want, go for it!

Hi, I think u should have the wedding of your dreams! This is my second marriage (first one we eloped) I always dreamed of my princess wedding and this time i am doing it.... huge wedding all the bells and whistles... ya know   My Fiance, this is his third.  His first marriage he was 17 and girl he had broken up with said "opps, I'm preg... so they went to courthouse that day.  2nd time he was living w someone and they decided she could get better health benifits if they got married so they went out and found a justice of the peace.   I am the only one he got down on one knee and actually proposed to andit makes me feel good there is no "reason" we are getting married other than he really wants to marry me.... so we are havin the big huge wedding. he is excited too ... so have fun sweetie, and plan ur wedding how u want and don't worry what other people think. U will have a lot of support here on the Knot!

WELL, I BELIEVE A LOT OF US HAVE "TACKY" AS OUR MIDDLE NAMES, BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF BEAUTIFULLY PLANNED WEDDINGS HAPPENING!!!!

The only way your wedding could be tacky is if you both wore butt signs saying "Wifey"  and "Hubby" - but, if you have your hearts set on wearing them - go for it! 

Seriously, there is nothing tacky at all.  It is my 2nd, FI's 3rd also, and we will be having the church wedding with all the trimmings. 

dennis: Your story sounds alot like my FI's history.  His 1st one happened because his GF got pregnant (she had 2 grown kids already!) "unexpectedly", and his 2nd marriage was just after one of his brothers got married - his GF then said to him, "we are getting married and it will be soooo much better than theirs was!" 

I was the only one he proposed to officially - on bended knee and everything!

   I would not think it tacky- it was what my mom did, as when she married the first time, it was a courthouse wedding type thing in Reno. Of course, that was to my dad, and they stayed married until he passed in 2006. When my mom met her now husband, and they decided to get married, she wanted to have a big wedding, which she didn't have the first time. And it was a beautiful wedding, and no one thought it tacky.
    As for my second wedding, which will be coming up sometime this year(exact date tbd), we're doing a courthouse wedding, as we both already had our big weddings, the first time.
