Any other August 13th weddings here??

We've JUST started our search for a venue but really want to get married on August 13th. It would be a neat date to have since his birthday is on Sept 13th and mine is on Oct 13th!! I'm a little overwhelmed by venue information right now and wanted to find out if anyone else had ideas for an August 13th wedding. We're thinking completely indoors, but I think if it was late enough at night then a night ceremony wouldn't be too bad... What do you other knotties think??

I like completely indoor weddings!! I know you are just starting to look, so save you looked at any venues in person yet?

I looked at the Fairy Tale Manor in Frisco. I really liked it for the price and the fact that I can bring in outside vendors, my only issue is that it fits 150 max indoors. We're looking at inviting about 160-175 people (not entirely sure of the exact count right now but somewhere in the 150-175 range) and I think it would feel crowded when we have the reception set up....

My FI is also a very picky person and wants everyone else to be comfortable. He will be the budget buster, not me!!

Event 1013 was at the top of my list but sadly it is already booked that day.

I think August once the sungoes down could be nice.  Do you have an area you are looking in or prefer?
  • edited December 2011
What kind of budget are you looking at? The Magnolia downtown can hold a group your size, and compared to some similar venues I looked at, their F&B minimum was not near as high.

Are you going for a specific feel?

We really don't care about a specific area. I've looked at places as far as Azle going west and a place in Rockwall in the east. My parents live in Rowlett so Rockwall wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

We are working with a $10k budget. I would rather that not be the entire cost of the venue so that I can get decent photography and not have to pay for too much out of pocket (my parents are definitely helping us out).

So far we've got Golf Clubs, Event Centers, and Art Centers on our list. Perkins Chapel at SMU has two openings that day morning and early afternoon. I would prefer the early afternoon one but am having a hard time finding a place near there where we could have access to the venue before 4 pm.

Have you looked at the Arboretum? http://www.dallasarboretum.org/WeddingEvents/Ceremony&ReceptionVenues.htm

Here's one garden that would fit your guest list size for $1000:  http://www.dallasarboretum.org/WeddingEvents/DeGolyerPergolaCeremony.htm

ETA: Just realized you are looking for indoor, though. Duh moment...

Have you looked at the Addison Event Center? Courtski is getting married here in a few months, they seemed fairly budget friendly when we looked at them, but it wasn't what I wanted. (http://www.addisoneventcenterinc.com/files/contract.pdf)

Granville Arts Center in Garland? I am not familiar with their rates but here's their site and contact info: www.ci.garland.tx.us/Home/Departments/Recreation+and+Cultural+Services/Garland+Arts/PA3-B+The+Atrium_landing.htm">http://www.ci.garland.tx.us/Home/Departments/Recreation+and+Cultural+Services/Garland+Arts/PA3-B+The+Atrium_landing.htm

THE ATRIUM AT THE ARTS CENTER call Mark Wilson, Event Director, at 972-205-3981 or e-mail at mwilson@ci.garland.tx.us;  or call Event Coordinator Matt Hosek, at 972-205-2632 or e-mail at mhosek@ci.garland.tx.us

    Represent!

The AEC is a beautiful venue! It would definitely fit your anticipated guest count, with ample extra room. They have a built in dance floor, and you can bring outside vendors as well. It is certainly worth a look, and for the $10K budget (is that just for the venue and food?) is DEFINITELY manageable. I think we are over that just because of the extra hour we tacked on, the room rental for the entire day, and cocktail hour. Even typing those extras makes my head spin. :) Good luck in your search, and thank you for not asking if we recommend you having something outside in August!
Speaking of, a former knottie SoonToBeMrsHoz got married there last August and it was beautiful!

A coworker of mine had her reception at Addison Event Center and loved it as well! It's definitely on my list, although my FI doesn't like the chapel. I will probably just need to take him there to look at it. I can usually change his mind about things.

As far as our $10k budget I would rather keep it below that for venue and food so that I have some left over for dress, cake, photography, etc. However I am working on a few leads so that I don't have to spend a lot on the cake, hair, and photography. My mom knows quite a few people at the school she works at that do those things as a hobby.

Thanks for all the info FebDallasBride!

I should get paid to do this :)

Oh wait, I do. Just not weddings. YET!

Although I think next summer (not this cause I'm taking my CMP exam) I am taking the plunge and getting my wedding planner certs.

I've heard it can be fun and if you're good at networking you could really help out some brides! My FI has a friend who is a wedding planner in Northwest Arkansas and she is really good and has a lot of fun doing it.

I'm an August 13 bride!!! W00t! What about at local YMCAs? You could get married at a local church, than have your reception at a YMCA. Also, if you belong to a certain church, I'm sure they have a big room for a reception.

They might but not all of them allow for their room to be used.  In fact, most Catholic churches don't and many don't if you're wanting to have a champagne toast.

We actually have yet to find a church to call "home". We thought we had found THE one but then the pastor we loved moved to Tyler. Sad day.

We also want to have beer/wine at the reception so a church reception is out of the question. We both thought that the other person really really cared about getting married in an actual church/chapel setting and as it turns out neither one of us actually cares. We are going to ask his Dad (former minister) to officiate the ceremony which I think will mean more to us both.

I've collected so much information about venues and am thinking about compliing it all together for other future knotties. Does that sound like a good idea?
  • edited December 2011
It depends on the church. I went to my cousin's wedding last August in OK. It was at a Catholic church. They had the mass and everything. Their reception was on site at from what it looked like, a gym. They had champagin, wine, and beer. You would prob. just have to ask and see. My parents got married at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Bedford, and they had champaign and wine there too, but, things could have changed. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Yep, any new info for the vendor site is always welcome.  You can PM it to me or visit the site for my contact info.

As for it being under construction... Almost done.  Venue/cakes to be finished and working on DJs now ;D

Yes, I actually do this for a living, I wasn't being a <a href="mailto:smart@$$">smart@$$</a> about that. So I understand the whole networking thing :)

I plan corporate events and will probably be going independent and getting my Wedding Planner Certification next year. This year is Meeting Professional Certification
