2nd wedding....dress question

My finance and I plan on having a small intimate wedding on the beach with just very close family members and friends. This is the 2nd and last marriage for both. I had a very expensive princess dress for my first wedding. I would like to have the dress remade into a more form fitting dress with a very minimul train. Has anyone ever had a dress remade, and if so how much did it cost?

I was married on the beach three years ago, but I bought a new dress. Somehow, a satin dress, even remade, didn't seem appropriate.  :-)  I spent less than 200 on my new dress.  Jewelry was more than that.  Ha!

How much you spend "remaking" a dress depends on the tailor/seamstress, the area of the country, what your dress was, and what you want it to look like.  For example, in Boston, which is, I believe, the highest cost of living, having a dress just hemmed/shortened, and sleeves shortened may run you one price, but having a dress completely taken apart to make something much different in florida might cost you a lot more, even though most areas of Florida have a medium cost of living.   A lot of people think that is all you do is hem a dress, but if it has intricate embroidery around the bottom, then what will actually happen is that the skirt is taken completely off from the bodice, and moved up, to shorten it, then taken in at the seams.   That is usually several hundred dollars.
You'll just have to take it to someone who does that type of work and get a quote to know for sure.
