Do I need to show divorce papers in order to get married in NJ

Planning to get married in July 2010 in a civil ceremony in New Jersey. Both my fiance and I were divorced. Will that pose any issue for getting our marriage license. Will we need documentation of our divorces in order to get married. I have mine, but it would be tough to get ahold of his.

Actually, the site you linked to says those documents are helpful but not required.

Varies by state - you need to inquire at the county clerk or whatever office issues the licenses in your area.  We just had to provide the date of divorce, but no documentation.  Your state may be different.

They didn't ask for mine - but since I went back to my maiden name there was no discrepancy between my birth certificate and my current name - definitely call and ask just to be on the safe side

I would definetely call and ask to be sure. Im getting married in ND was finding conflicting information on the net. I called and was told that I needed to provide not just a copy of my divorce papers but a certified copy of my divorce decree that they will keep on file
