MOB and MOF dress colors

My wedding colors are white, black and platinum.  My bridesmaids are wearing black dresses.  Does anyone have any suggestions for what colors the moms should wear?  Can they wear black if the bridesmaids are?  I don't really care what they wear but my FMIL is trying to find something while my mom is a lot like me and is pretty laid back about the whole thing.  Any suggestions would be great.  Thanks!!

With that color scheme, I would say anything in the taupe, wine or mauve colors would be fine. The idea is for the mothers to either complement your BM dresses, ie: a lighter shade of them or something neutral like gold or silver, but with your color scheme I would recommend a light shade of a color that complements your colors. The mom's could wear black, but in my opinion that is too much black and would look more like a funeral than a wedding, but it is up to you. I would think you would want some color to make the pics pop bc the only color you will have is the bouquets.

I have a "man of honor" and a bridesmaid.  Both are wearing black.  My mom is also going to be wearing a black dress.

I would look for any color that compliments your FMIL's skin tone.  I wouldn't fret too much, just focus on a cut first, something that is beautiful and age-appropriate.  (I went to a wedding last summer and the MOG looked like she was wearing a prom dress, very tacky.)  If you're laid back, then maybe you should take an afternoon to go shopping with her.  If you're not that close to her, it could be a great time to bond with her as well!

They are adults and can dress themselves.  They don't need to coordinate with your wedding colors and I'm sure they can find something lovely without you giving them color guidelines.

Whatever colour they look good in/find a dress in/want.  Seriously, they've been dressing themselves for how many years?  I'm sure they can figure this one out.

Thanks for everyone's responses!  I hope I didn't come across as anyone thinking that I'm trying to dress them.  I would love nothing more then for them to show up in what they want and just enjoy themselves.  The question really came from my FMIL asking me what lenght my mom was going to wear and what color and me not having any clue because that was the last thing on my mind! 

Thanks again for everyone's responses I will definitely go with the approach of whatever they want that will compliment them!

MOF get first pick on colors.. if you did Black white and platinum... they can do any other colors as long as they like them... Light colors for spring and darker for fall... but ohter than that dont' worry..... I know a girl who had platinum accents on the F but hte MOB wore silver and no one knew other wise.....
