Places to buy Mother of the Bride dresses

Where did your MOB or MOG buy their dress? My step-mom is having a hard time finding something, we have looked at every website I can think of from David's Bridal to Nordstrom and Kohls. She doesn't like going to stores to shop so I am stuck trying to find websites that allow returns. Any ideas would be extremly helpful.

  • My mom got a great dress for my brother's wedding from Banana Republic or Ann Taylor or something like that.

My MIL purchased her dress from Ann Taylor and my mom from Dillards.

Your mother doesn't have to stay to the standard MOB dresses.  Tell her to wear something she's comfortable in and makes her feel good.

  • My mom got her dress at Macy's - it's just a regular evening dress, not specifically for "mother of the bride", but it looks great and it's completely appropriate.  Macy's has a pretty decent return policy with online orders.

  • My Mom got hers from Lord and Taylor - just a regular formal evening gown and she looked AMAZING in it.  It doesn't need to say "Mother of the Bride" to work as an MOB dress!

  • My Mom got hers at this boutique that sells prom, pagent, and wedding dresses (it doesn't look like any of the the above). My FMIL hasn't found one yet, but is looking at Bloomingdaes, Macy's, David's, and Rent the Runway. You can go pretty much anywhere for them.

  • My mom got hers from Jade Couture and the MOG got hers from Bergdorf Goodman's. I think their dresses are more expensive than mine...in fact, I'm almost 100% sure.

  • Of mainstream department stores that I am familiar with, Nordstrom's by far has the best return policy.  I was on their website last night looking at dresses for my son's wedding this summer.  In the "special occasion/evening cocktail" section, I must have bookmarked at least 10 that have a strong potential.

Ann Taylor and Banana Republic also have a good selection out at the moment.  If you look weekly until they have one of their "40% off everything" sale, the prices are reasonable.  BR also has some sweaters/cardigans in the stores right now that would make for really pretty "cover-alls" over simple sheath dresses.
  • My mom got hers from Ross, it's a knee length, sleeveless champagne dress. It was $40, and perfect for our semi-casual wedding!
