Positve Thread - Great day with FMIL!

Since there is usually a lot of FMIL drama on the boards, I wanted to add a positive note. My FMIL and I don't exactly "click" but we get along. Our relationship is getting a lot better - today was an example. I invited her to go to my first alterations appointment and she came along. My mom and all my BMs live out of state, so it was just the two of us. We found out that we had lots to talk about on the car ride (about 45 min) and it wasn't awkard, like I thought it might be.

She really liked my dress once I had it on (she didn't seem too excited when I had shown it to her at my home). We also took time to look for a dress she could wear and I think she had a really fun time trying on dresses with me! (She doesn't have any daughters, so she's never got to experience this before).

We found a beautiful dress that we both like (she kept asking for my opinion and I kept telling her to just get whatever she wanted lol). I had to give her several ideas of what I thought would be nice and then told her to pick what SHE wanted. She finally made a decision and we both love it.

Anyway, just wanted to share. Please share your positive future in-law stories!

Re: Positve Thread - Great day with FMIL!

  • I LOVE my MIL. She's just amazing. Fi sometimes jokes with her that he's the in-law and not me. :) She always tags me in FB daughter posts and anytime I'm in town (away for school), she always makes time for fi and I to visit and have dinner. And she just told me the last time I was over that she's going to handle all of the food and cake costs. O.O I was completely blown away (Fi and I were going to do this ourselves but she won't let up on it so we agreed) because she wants to pay for it, but it'll be anyway that Fi and I decided to do. :) Yay.

That's nice FMB. Your FMIL is lucky to have a FDIL that realizes a new relationship may take time and a little extra effort to grow. Good for both of you.

That's great. I bet you are feeling good after such a great experience. I like my FMIL. We have a LOT in common. We aren't especially close but I have never had any problems with her.

Thanks! It's not easy and we've had our arguments, but things have gotten a lot better!
