MOB dress color

Is there a rule for the color of dress for the Mother of the Bride?  My daughter's bridesmaids are wearing dark red for a December wedding.  Should the color of my dress be in the same color hue?

No rule for this! It doesn't have to be the same, or even coordinate. You can wear whatever color you like!

No.  Wear what you want to wear.  I think it looks odd if you try to match the wedding party.  I tried to coordinate.  It was fall, my daughter's girls wore moss green and my dress was chocolate brown.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

No, you don't have to match but I would try to wear something that didn't clash with the wedding colors.

I agree with PPs. Also, no white and unless you're a widow and super-traditional, no black.

The BMs dresses are red and my mom's dress is a deep blue.

Nope they do not need to coordinate at all.  Pick a color that you feel beautiful in.  If you are really concerned then take the bride with you when you go shopping.  But, IMO, stay away from ivory or white, but all other colors feel free!

I would stay away from white or ivory, because many people still honor the tradition of the bride being the only one in white. Other than that, wear whatever color you like.
