Maternity Bridesmaid Dress

One of my bridesmaids will be about 7 1/2 months pregnant during my wedding. I really don't think the dress we picked for everyone else will work for her. I'm not expecting her to match everyone but I don't feel like she wants to stand out with a completely different dress. David's Bridal wasn't really helpful with other suggestions (maybe I'll have to try going back and talking to someone else) and they don't really have a good maternity selection online. Here's the link to the bridesmaid dress (in kelly green):

Any suggestions?

I would just make sure she tries the dresses on before making a final decision on shorter dresses because a growing belly can make the dresses even shorter than you think.

  • Have you asked her what her budget is for a dress? If you haven't, you need to. Babies are expensive and she might not want to drop a lot of money on a bridesmaid dress she'll never wear again. An alternative in that case would be an empire waist or maternity dress in black, since that's easy to find and more rewearable.

I really like the one jagore linked and agree with her about the length. SIL was 6 months along in our wedding (she just got another dress since everyone was in different shades/dresses anyway) and she had a pretty sizeable pregnant belly.

  • My friend will also be 7 months along at my wedding in a few months.  My girls bought an empire waisted dress.  She also ordered up 1 or 2 sizes and had extra length added.  The dress is in and it fits ok.  There is boning in the side and doesn't lay right on the sides.  But as soon as the boning is removed, the fit will be more like a normal empire waist dress.  But just like most BM dresses, they don't always fit right the first time you put it on!
  • I would definitely make sure she is able to try some dresses on first, to see what she may be comfortable in.

I chose my BM dresses knowing someone may be pregnant...and turns out, two of them will be 8+ months pregnant! (The dress is in my siggy.) For my pregnant BMs, they ordered 3 sizes up and added some length. Both girls do plan to have them altered, though, and the lady I use for alterations is super quick. So they will be doing that at the last minute. But, my girls also do not really have a budget for the dresses, which is very helpful since alterations are usually not cheap, and the dresses weren't cheap either.
