MOB dress

My mom is short, 4' 11" to be exact.  Any suggestions where she/we can go to find a dress for the wedding?  She doesn't want anything too formal since the wedding isn't very formal but she does want something new and flattering.

Should we just try Macy's, JC Penney and such? Do they have a good petite selection?

(Can you tell I'm not a big shopper?) LOL

My mom is petite also and is just getting hers hemmed and altered. She found one she liked at a bridal store. But I would check dept. stores first for petite sizes, although in my experience, they never have a ton. She will probably need to be open to getting alterations though.

I'm around the same height and would just expect to either find something either in petites or need to get it altered.

I think dept stores should be fine to shop at.

I am a big fan of Nordstrom's.  They have a fairly good petite collection.  Alterations are done on site and I have found them to do a great job on the things I have purchased there.  They will also steam and press at no additional charge.  They will ship anything out of stock directly to your home and their return policy cannot be beat!

Two other stores that typically have a more extensive petite selection are The Loft and Talbots.

I'm about your mother's height and small (usually wear a 0 or 2). I don't shop petites and don't need to do or look for anything special in a formal dress. I just buy regular dresses and get them hemmed if necessary. Does she usually shop petites?

I'd try the departments stores. They tend to have good selection and tons of sizes. I would also suggest Dress Barn. They have really cute dresses for all occasions-- my mom found her wedding clothes there.

Thanks everyone!   Maybe we'll try Dress Barn, hadn't thought of them (have I mentioned I'm not a big shopper?).

I'm not sure what dept she usually shops, I guess I'll find out.  I just want her to be comfortable but I know she's lookin to impress! Silly old woman!

I was in Dress barn two days ago and they had lots of pretty dresses.  Penneys did too.

There are more choices online. I will be a MOB next year and I've been looking at Nordstrom's, JCrew, Macy's Dilliards,Banana Republic. I may even choose one from the bridesmaid selections. I am also petite.
