Conflict between bridesmaid and matron of honor

One of my bridesmaids is getting upset because she isn't my matrion of honor. She feels that since she has known me the longest, she should be my matron of honor. I want to have another friend as my matron of honor because she has been more supportive of me in the last years that I have been friends with her. She is also more supportive of my fiance than the other one. The bridesmaid is the kind of person that only is around when it is convient for her and when she wants to. What should I do?

Re: Conflict between bridesmaid and matron of honor

  • Do what you want to do.
  • There is no difference in what they do- show up sober and in the dress. The 'bm' needs to grow up and realize it's not a competition. If she presses the issue, I would just nicely say "I'm sorry you're hurt by my decision, but it is final." There doesn't need to be any discussion.
  • Your BM is being immature. She shouldn't have said anything to you about it. Just move on. Hopefully she will calm down and get over herself. If not, what's the worst case scenario? She won't get the dress (make sure you discuss their budgets) and will remove herself from the WP.

  • The BM is acting immature. It was your choice and you've already made your decision. So end of story. Let her know that your wedding party has already been chosen then ignore her comments.

  • no one should ever assume their role or title...only YOU can decide that. It is really rude of her to ever say something to you. Im sorry you have to deal with it, but whatever you do, dont explain why you didnt pick her...it will just rub salt in the wound.
  • I feel your pain...the exact thing happened to me to the point that a couple of days before my wedding my friend/bridesmaid made me apologize for asking my other friend to be MOH...my advice is to ask who you want to be moh and let the other friend know it doesn't mean you like/love them less...the other option is two moh's which is what I am for one of my best friends.
