Maids Dresses

I am having such a difficult time trying to figure what the girls dress should look like. I am having two girls standup, They both have told  me we dont care what they want and everything I show them, they say they love and when I tell them show me some things you like they never show me anything! Its starting to get on me nerves since the wedding in June 2013 , we don't have much time left.

It is a backyard wedding so I keep going back and forth between fabrics,I like the silky look but don't know if I should go with a flowy material since who knows what kind of weather we will have in WI in June. My dress is the silky type of fabric.

Any suggestions?

Re: Maids Dresses

  • Have you asked them their budgets individually yet?  If not, do this first.

As far as type of dress/fabric, a few questions...
    1) How fancy is your wedding?  I know you said it is a backyard wedding but that could still mean that it is pretty fancy (think Father of the Bride).
    2) How warm does it get where you are in June?
    3) What does your dress look like?

</div><div>Don't worry, you've got about two months left before you really have to order. I'd get their budgets individually and then pick something you like that you think will be flattering on them and fit their budget since they've expressed that they just want to make you happy.</div><div>
</div><div>Silky looking fabrics are nice, but I was in a wedding in Philadelphia in early June last year wearing a satin dress outdoors, and I was extremely hot. David's Bridal has some lovely dresses in a cotton sateen that's really breathable, my BMs wore those and everyone was quite comfortable - cotton sateen isn't very shiny so it might not be the right look depending on your vision. Good luck, and try posting over on attire and accessories - but put XP in the subject line so people know you've posted twice. </div>

It is more casual, but i consider my dress rather fancy, below is kinda what my dress looks like but with a lot more bling!
the weather varies it could be 50 or like last summer 90's.
The girls said well depends what it is no more than 150 but thats if i LOVE the dress. Im totally open for them picking their own but again they really havent given me any feedback  and when i say well what about this and they are like its up to you.

  • As a MOH, the bride to be in the wedding taking place in a few weeks brough me along to a few stores with another bridesmaid. we tried on dresses and said whether we liked them or not. eventually, we all came to an agreement. The bride then told the other bridesmaids about the dresses and thankfully, everything went smoothly. One thing you need to keep in mind is the price of the dress. It's not fair to ask your bridesmaids to pay for a $200 that is only going to be worn one day.
  • I am also getting married June 2013.  Since my sister (MOH) and I will be home over the holidays and one of my BM's lives near my parents, we are going dress shopping at that time.  There has been only one other occasion where just my sister and I looked at dresses to get some ideas.  The biggest thing that helped us was actually trying the dresses on, because my sister is a size 2 and I am a curvy size 8-10.  Some of the things that looked great on her, made me looked like a bus!

That really helped narrow it down for us, so on this next shopping trip, we have a better idea of what shapes to look at.  And of course knowing each girl's budget first helped too.  They have some nice BM dresses at Target.  They wouldn't necessarily be AS fancy as your dress, but they are still nice.  There are also fewer choices which could help.

  • Being in multiple weddings, my favorite option as a bridesmaid was being able to choose what I wanted, but the bride chose the color. IMO, it lets the girls choose what they think looks best on them, so that you're not having skinny girls and heavy girls in the same thing and having one or the other look bad in it.
  • This is the dress i chose for my girls. My date is June 8th and in WI. It looks good on everyone and its flowy. So, if there's warm weather it's a pretty breathable fabric because its chiffon and it comes with a shawl incase is a little on the chilly side. It was about $120 for my girls, it might have been cheaper because the place I went gave you a discount if you had all your maids buy it there. Its Mori Lee style 642. Otherwise Mori Lee has alot of nice dresses that are pretty affordable. Im not sure how much time you because my place called me saying that if I didnt order them by the end of the year or early January, there would be a rush fee. Every place is different. Good luck! :)
