almost in panic mode

My daughter has just last week enlisted my help in planning her reception. Wedding in 32 days! 300 people and I have no clue where to begin. Everyone is either broke or really poor. Don't know how to figure out the food amounts. Any help is greatly appreciated.

[QUOTE]Wait.  How long has your daugther been engaged?  Have invitations already gone out to those 300 people?  What was her budget for the event in the first place?  Is anything booked?  How were they planning on paying anyway?  It is up to the bride and groom to pay for their wedding.  If anyone offers, that is fantastic, but not required. There is a lot of information missing here.

Agree with the PPs. If possible cut down the guest list. If not look into B-B-QUE or Pasta Bar buffet dinner. Forego cake just do a small one with sheet cakes (Costco etc). Get flowers from a farmer's market. Cancel uneeded vendors- eg Videographer- coordinator if you can do without.

    I agree, cut the invitees.

Have a small wedding of immediate family only in someone's backyard.  Buy flowers from costco online (very cheap).

Have music come from a playlist from an iPod, see if you can borrow speakers from someone.

Have a BBQ or a pasta bar as suggested.

And THEN, take the time to have a reception for other guests.  Don't have that huge of a wedding on what is now 25 days.  That's impossible.

If your daughter's been engaged for only a few days then tell her she needs to back up the wedding... if she's been engaged for ages and has only Just now decided she wants to get married and on a certain date... tell her she needs to sort out her priorities.

Good luck and let us know what you ended up doing!

    Ditto PP.

Also, check out your local board.  If you must do it in 32 days a backyard bbq might be your only option.

    1.  Get a wedding website, usually free
    2. Use email or texting-which is free to tell people about the wedding website
    3.  Have an informal wedding at a park or college, usually pretty low cost
    4.  Have a potluck style wedding luncheon at someone's home-free
    5.  Enlist family to do photography, music, decorations, using their talents usually free
