Wedding Band

If we keep our wedding date in May, I need a band on a budget.  Like $350 total or less.  I found this little guy online at Helzberg: CLICKY.  It's down to $299 from $795, which is great, and most everything about the ring looks good except the I2 quality... but the diamonds are likely so tiny that I can't see that it would matter all that much.  They are near colorless, which to me is more important.  I don't have to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ring but it would be nice to like it enough to wear it.

Do you guys think this would look decent with a round 3-stone e-ring?  Or should he just put the e-ring on my finger at the ceremony and worry about the band at a later date and time?

It's super pretty! I would be nervous about getting a band without seeing how it looked with my ring first. My engagement band on my ring is really skinny, and I wouldn't like the look of a thicker band with it.
I don't think it's a big deal to slip your engagement ring on your finger during the ceremony. You could even make a date to go buy your wedding band afterwards on a special anniversary, like when you started dating, Valentines Day (although that's a long time from May), or Christmas.
You want to like it! I want one I can also wear by itself in case I want to go running or cycling, or if I just don't want to be wearing my rock around (not that it's bling-tastic or anything, but you know what I mean).

The $6,000 we just paid out for FI to go to SPI nearly wiped our bank accounts clean.  We both have $4,000 of tax returns coming in, which is great, but we owe about $7,000 still on the wedding and I'm not sure if his parents are still going to pitch in or not (though they seem to be coming around).  If not, we're putting the rest on our credit cards *gulp*.  Then to add to that, FI and I have about $700 worth of appts we have to make once a month now.  We're looking at a cheaper apartment in Plano, but hoooooly ovewhelmed, Batman! LOL

The ring is very pretty but if you're not really sure about it I don't think there is anything wrong with waiting until later when you have the finances to get the ring you really like. Maybe make it a point to set your 1 year or even 5 year wedding anniversary to get the wedding band that you really like.

I know a girl who loved her engagement ring so much, she didn't even get a wedding band because she thought it was beautiful on its own, and didn't want to distract from it or make it gaudy.
Not that you SHOULD do that... but I don't think people would think it was weird to not have one at the moment.

I'm actually considering not getting a wedding band. If I can't find anything that can match it or look good with it I'm not going to get one.

Amy, I think waiting might be a really good idea.  Considering all the recent stresses you two have gone through, purchasing a really special ring when things have calmed down for you could be really nice.  Sort of like when people have their rings melted down and reset for milestone anniversaries.

And, also considering stresses, do you want to drop any amount of money on a ring you don't love?

Amy- you are not an idiot. Your just thinking about tradition and also been under alot of stress.  And I'm so glad to hear that you two might go ahead with the original wedding date.

I don't think you're an idiot at all.  The wedding ring is the symbol that you're married -- it's pretty darn important.  But it's also something you're going to have for a really long time.  If you want to go with something simple for now, I say do it, then save up for The Ring.  Have you checked out Etsy or looked into getting just a simple band with no stones just to have?  Lots of people go with very minimal wedding bands because the engagement ring is the "showpiece," so to speak.

</div><div>Yes, we still <em>might</em> go ahead with the original date.  We're supposed to have a phone conference sometime on Monday or Tuesday to make a final decision.  I was shocked when the guy advising him told me he would recommend we go ahead and go through with it as scheduled.  I'm sure there are many, many people who will criticize me for going through with it if we do, while there may be a handful of people who might understand why I would and be supportive.  Everything seems like a no-win situation when it comes to the wedding, so at this point, it will be a relief just to have a decision made one way or another!

I for one think that wedding band is gorgeous. It looks a lot like mine, so I'm probably biased. It's also a great deal, and I wish I'd gotten that price.

Maybe you could think on it a few nights and see if you'd grow to love it?

If not, and you know it's only something to tide you over a year or two ... I'd probably just get a plain band or something that was less than $100. I wouldn't spend $300 on something I didn't love (even though I personally think that's a GREAT deal). Personally, I'd definitely want a wedding band for the symbolism of it. Even if it was something super inexpensive symbolizing our "start", you know?

Also -- I'm really rooting for you two. Good luck on the conference call!

We got ours there, and they're beautiful!  You might also hit up local jewlers and see what they have.  If you plan on saving up for a fancier one later, you could probally pick up a simple band for a good price, and replace it when you can.

Also, if you get just a plain band, you can purchase diamonds separately and reuse the metal in another setting.

We are doing this! I don't wear rings that much anyways and at this moment in time, a wedding band isn't something I feel like I need. Maybe in the future I will change my mind, and if so, I will make that decision then.
