What do you think???

We went bridesmaid dress shopping over the weekend. My maid of honor (she's my cousin) has to travel about 2.5 hours to get to the bridal place so I invited her mother along, too. We also did this for the Wedding Dress shopping and it was fine. After all the girls had tried on their dresses we were starting to look at jewelry and next thing I know, my aunt is trying on a wedding gown.

I couldn't believe it. It was NOT her day. This day was for the girls. On top of that, the place was crowded and other brides needed the room. I kept my mouth shut for my mother's sake, but it really bothered me. And now her daughter posted the picture on facebook as a part of an album about my wedding.

Is it right to be upset about this? Or is it "normal" for non-involved parties to try on wedding dresses???

Re: What do you think???

  • Honestly, I think you are overreacting.  It wasn't like she decided to try on a wedding dress while you were shopping for yours.  She probably figured that the girls were done picking out their dresses and were just looking around at other things.

Also, I have never been in a wedding where it was such a huge production for all the BMs try on their dresses together.  In fact I was just given the order information and went and ordered each of my BM dresses myself.

Just breathe...this really is not a big deal at all.

  • You are overreacting.  Is it a little odd?  Sure.  Is it something to get upset about?  No.  Just let it go.

  • It would bother me too. It was a bridesmaids day not about her trying on wedding dreses. Make a seperate appointment!!!

It would really upset you?  Really?

If you went with your BMs to try on dresses and you were done and just milling around looking at jewelry and your Aunt came out in a wedding dress you wouldn't find that amusing or entertaining?

I just think the Aunt was trying to have a little fun.  Brides out there...you need to lighten the heck up and not take everything so freaking seriously.  These days are supposed to be fun not stressful or upsetting...nothing the Aunt did ruined the day for everyone or even ruined the upcoming wedding.  Try to have a little fun, dear lord!

  • Just wondering: Is your aunt engaged?

Do I think the situation is a little strange? Yeah, but it's really not anything to get upset and bent out of shape about. Don't say anything about it. As far as posting a pic of it in your wedding titled album, just leave it alone. I think it would sound immature if you say anything to your cousin.

  • She's not engaged.

The more I think about it, if it had been someone else I might not have gotten upset about it originally. She's one of those people who intentionally wears the wedding colors to a person's wedding because she likes the attention. I just felt like, "here we go again, she has to have the attention". Her and I have always clashed personality wise and I think that puts me on edge with her. I also think I was embarrassed. I apologized to the girl helping us knowing how crowded they were.

Long story short, it's not a big deal and thanks for helping me realize it :)

  • I agree that it is really strange and your aunt probably made herself look like a dufus. Would I be embarassed? Yup. But this isn't a hill to die on. It in no way will have any bearing on your wedding day. She was probably bored and wanted in on the fun of trying on pretty dresses.
