spray tans

Can anybody recommend a good tanning salon for reasonable priced spray tans?

My apartment clubhouse has free tanning beds which I might use but I'm hesitant about. So I want to find a place for spray tanning. Planet Tan has a buy 2 versaspa tans and get two free. Has anybody used them before?!
TIA Smile

Please don't use a tanning bed.

I got a VersaSpa tan for my wedding (and Epics, and bridal shower) and it worked fine.  But it does take some practice so you'll want to try it a couple of times before the wedding.

awesome, do you remember how much they cost?

I also did versa for epics, bridals and wedding.  Like Stephanie mentioned, do a few test runs before.  I paid $55 for 4 at Mega Tan in Bedford but they were running a special at the time.

I didn't get a package so I paid like $35 each time.  I was just so sure I would end up getting airbrushed and then waited too long to find someone!  If you think you'll have several times you will use it (like bridals, shower, etc.) definitely get a package.

Oh man I hate Versaspa/Mystic.  I always screw it up.  It is about $30ish each time though if you buy them individually.

Definitely practice a few times first!

I did versa for my bachelorette party and wedding, and was pretty happy with it. I think airbrushing will always look better, but is definitely more expensive. I bought 2 at palm beach tan for $45. If I had bought more the price per tan would have gone down. I did notice after my wedding that the tan had rubbed off on the inside of the neckline of my dress, but it came out when I got it cleaned.

i LOVE versaspa, it does take some practice but when compared to just regular mystic tan it is A MILLION times better! I would say though that if you have the option of getting someone to airbrush you that I would take that route....I got that done before a trip I took to hawaii and I never had to worry about a missed spot, or somewhere being darker than another! If you find someone who is willing to work with you, and you buy more than one the price is actually really reasonable just remember before you do it to EXFOLIATE your whole body but especially your elbows, knees, and heels! Dead skin will absorb more of the color than the rest of your body so you will end up with darker knees and elbows....I have gotten spay tanned probably 100+ times so I like to think I know a little of what I'm talking about lol

I did the Mystic spray and they tell you what positions you need to be in each time the machine sprays out but you have to remember. I bought 2 for $50 & got 2 free but only used 1 so far. You may want to try with the lighter shades 1st. Then move to a darker shade once you get use to it.

I bought a buywithme coupon( Thanks Tiffany!)  for Smart Bronze in Southlake. I did it Saturday and my e-pics were Sunday. I wouldn't do that again so close. While I don't think it turned out bad. The tone today is perfect. It was my first time and it was a hand airbrushed. I paid $19.

The bolded part worries me but I'm sure with practice that wouldn't happen.  and wow 100 times! I trust you for sure! lol

So if I did it a couple days before my wedding it shouldn't rub off on my dress? That's what I'm most worried about.

Jenngb where did you pay $50 with 2 free? I'd definately like to practice and have it done for my bachelorette party too.

BTW do ya'll know how much airbrushed usually runs? I thought that was only for your face makeup. lol shows what little i know!

haha it shouldn't worry you, just scrub those areas more when you go to get it done, it just helps the spray apply more even. Yeah I have gotten them done a lot haha I used to be obsessed with being tan, but that is not the case anymore I guess since I look like one of those vampires from twilight haha

I think as far as tanning goes, it is the same as any other beauty product, what one person likes or works really well for one person might not be what works for another or something that they like. I never liked mystic because to me the spray was too thick, when you do versa the spray is ALOT lighter and they even have a dryer that helps the spray to dry a little before you get out of the machine...I never looked normal with mystic no matter how many practice rounds I had, versa (after I found out about it) was always my go to favorite.

Getting someone who airbrushes you though is the best thing I would say to do if you are not used to getting spray tanned or if you dont really want to put in the time for the extre practice sessions...Most of them are really great (just do some research) and you can have on as much or as little clothes as you feel comfortable in! The lady who did mine did mine asked me before hand how dark I wanted to be but then even during the session she let me look and see if I wanted to go darker or not. They are able to get in the little nooks and crannies that might be a little harder to get to when you do the spray tan.

also yes, get it done a few days before the wedding, because if you get it done the day before you definitely will get rub off on your dress

    hope this all helps!

[QUOTE]I am a size 16 as well.  I found a very cute wedding night nighty at Lane Bryant,, and it doesn't look huge or anything.  my MOH, who is much skinner than me is jealous of how cute it is.  I am sure it will be fine.  They make things for all body shapes.  (Or just hint for them to leave the tags on or get a gift receipt if possible).

I can't think of the name at the moment but it's on the southwest corner of Old Denton & Hebron in Carrollton. It's in the same parking lot as Ci Ci's pizza and Kroger. I would have to look for my contract to get the name and at this point I can't remember where I put it.

I always recommend airbrushing over a spray tan (a spray tan is where a machine sprays you while an airbrush tan is where a person sprays you).  But spray tanning can work fine if you're experienced with it.  I got mine on Thursday for my Saturday wedding.

Also--I swear by the tan accelerator cream they sell at the salon.  I was always splotchy until my sister told me to start using it (like SBSmith, she's a spray tan pro).  I never had splotches again.

I have been airbrushed before and it was probably around $50 each time.

I HIGHLY recommend Tantrum-Tans! Seriously I have used Jennifer with them for E-pics, Bridals, Wedding Day, Hubby's Bday, and just because during the summer! I love it!! and it's reasonable!! They always have good deals, and they will come to you, or you can go to them- they have a few locations- I always went to Frisco, or Denton, but MOST of the time I just had her come to my moms and we'd get tans together! haha

Great recommendation!! I live in Denton and her prices look very reasonable. Is there any sort of initiation fee or do you just pay for tans only? I like the student discount too :)

I switched from tanning beds to versaspa when the instiuted the "tan tax" and then for some reason I started using the Mystic at that location instead of the Versa.  The mystic was very splotchy and uneven compared to the versa.

I think for my wedding I'm just going to do the bed route...but not over use it...just enough to not be pale!

I have always had a good experience with VersaSpa. I usually use a tanning bed twice and then do light on VersaSpa (I'm very fair skinned).

LOL! I know, I know-- I meant to do a proper "Hey, guys!" post... haha... I have had to put the wedding plans on a slight hold because I have been so busy with subbing. I'm doing a longterm job right now and a lot of trying to go above and beyond because I'm really wanting a full time position. Anyway, I'm realizing how soon my wedding is an how many things I need to get done! I'm just now sending save the dates this week!! EEK... and I'm still needing to book a few BIG vendors! I'm beginning to get overwhelmed, but I need to start devoting my weekends and time off to my wedding!! Yours is coming up soon!! yay :)

I didnt personally like versa spa...and Ive had terrible experiences with some local spray tan companies (orange color and fade bad).

I've been using Famous Tans. The tan always looks GREAT!...and the service is excellent as well. They are mobile and come to your location.

    Here is their website http://www.FamousTans.com

P.S Tell them I sent you!! (they give FREE tans for any new client you refer) :o)
