tanning/spray tan: please HELP!

Hi there! So here's my dilemma...i am a very white person, which i have finally accepted. haha i have a strapless gown that i'm wearing and my fear is tan lines. but since i'm always such a white person i don't want to tan and look really tan, because that's not me at all. i've never tanned before so have any of you tanned or spray tanned? i don't want to look tan, but i don't want tan lines.....HELP!

Re: tanning/spray tan: please HELP!

  • I'm a little confused.  Do you currently have tan lines?  Since you're wedding isn't until June, if you avoid the sun until then, your tan lines will most likely fade.  I had tan lines from walking and just quit walking at lunch a few months before my wedding to help them fade.  I got a spray tan for my wedding to cover what was left.

If you tan in a tanning bed in preparation for the wedding (which I don't recommend), you can tan topless to avoid tan lines.

If you get an airbrush or spray tan, you will not have tan lines.
  • I'm confused too.  If you just stay out of the sun or only wear a strapless swimsuit until your wedding, you should be fine as far as tan lines.  If you're worried about getting a farmer's tan from being outdoors, just wear plenty of sunscreen.
If you end up with a few tan lines and want to spray tan, there are different shades so you can use one of the lightest.
  • I would also just wear strapless when you go in the pool or when just being outside and if you have some lines just get a spray tan. Tanning beds are very bad for your skin, I would never rec this to anyone.
  • I just got a spray tan last week to see if I want one before my wedding. It was too tan for me the first day or two, so I've decided to get a spray tan 2 days before the wedding. By the third day I just had a nice light glow. I would say to do a practice run to see if you like it.

  • From my experience being that I am a very white person I have decided to be white on my wedding day. This is who I am and I am recognized for it being a part of me. I am embracing it. As far as spray tans go, I would just like to warn you about a few things I have been doing research on.

Never spray tan without a nose filter, eye protection, and lip protection. After going and being told it was fine without these things I would always have trouble breathing because it is almost impossible not to breath it in at some point. I did some research and found that the spray is not approved by FDA to be put on lips, inhaled, on your privates, or in eyes(obviously).Anything that could let it get in your blood stream. It is even advised that if you have a scratch not to do it. The tanning salons are not required to tell you these things and most of them have no idea anyway. Anyway apparently people are concerned that it may be the new asbestos in 10 years because they do not know what the risks are of being exposed to it anywhere other than your non broken skin. It contains small amounts of lead and many other poisons to your lungs so it is not meant to be inhaled!

So sorry about the rant but I have just been reading up on it alot after getting sick and reading about other girls getting sick. They really do not know what the repercussions are of using this product unwisely(not saying that you are but I was told it was ok).

I know that an airbrush tan done by an actual person could be a better alternative because she can control where the mist goes. Or even a self tanner :) good luck on your tan lines for your big day! Just looking out for you and wanted to share.
  • thanks so much for the help! if i do get a spray tan just in case i have tan lines are there anywhere that you'd recommend? i've never tanned before. also can you do it so its light and not heavy to where i'll look tan?

i don't really have dark tan lines just ones from wearing tank tops and stuff. but even the lightest of tan lines show up too well in photos ive discovered. :(
