hairstyle question

So I have really tight medium length curly hair.  My hair is also fine.  When I search for curly hairstyles for wedding, the results never come up with curly that is as curly as mine. at first I was thinking about having my hair straightened then re-curled with bigger curls to have sort of a marylin monroe look.  But now i'm wondering if I should just keep my curls and just add volume.  Any suggestions?  I would really appreiate it!

Re: hairstyle question

  • Could you post a photo? I think it's best to look like yourself on your wedding day. You don't want to look back at pictures and barely recognize yourself. Have you decided if you want it up for down?

I would describe my hair exactly like how you described yours.  I just had my hair trial yesterday and it went extremely well!  I am going to have a side swept style with looser curls.  Since I straighten my hair every once in a while, and have tried to curl it after it's been straightened, I know that straightening your hair first and then trying to add the curls back won't work.

Here's what I did and what I suggest.  After you shower, put either some straightening cream, smoothing cream, or antifrizz serum into you hair and then blow dry it.  I used my flat iron to iron out the roots around my face because most stylists that I have been to don't feel comfortable getting that close with hot tools.  Don't go all the way down your hair, just the roots where you want it to be straighter.  This worked out perfectly - better than I expected actually.  I got my hair done at 12:30pm and when I got home at 10pm, it still looked perfect.  I was outside in humid weather, sweating, and with the wind blowing.

The only thing my stylist suggested was to maybe get some extensions for some extra fullness.  I honestly loved the way my hair turned out, so I am not 100% sure it's a necessary investment.  If I was to wear my hair completely down or even half up/half own, then I would probably get some clip in ones from Sally's.

As for styles with natural curls, you're right.  There aren't a lot out there that I have seen and actually liked.  If you straighten our hair often enough that people are used to seeing you with either straight or curly hair, then I think you should go with whichever you feel most comfortable and beautiful with.  I've always disliked my natural curls and would probably straighten my hair everyday if it weren't for the time it takes and the damage it does.  So, needless to say, I am going with a more relaxed curl style.

Good luck and hope this helped a little.

  • I have very curly medium length hair. I'm doing this with a *little* more curl in the bottom. This will involve some flat ironing and curling iron as well.

  • OMG I have just discovered the most amazing websites for deciding dresses & makeup & hairstyles. So, David's Bridal has a virtual site for your bridal party. You can choose the sizes & hair color face shape etc for your party & avatar for dress shopping. But even cooler is the site by Mary Kay makeup. They let you upload a pic of yourself. Then you choose your hair color & style. Then you choose "modern" "classic" "glamorous" etc. & they let you can see how you'd look in each. You can save them & compare them, even do before & after shots. It is incredible. Hope this helps.
