Bikini wax? Do I have the guts?

HELP! LOL... I bought a couple bikini bottoms for our honeymoon that show just a bit more skin than I'm used to, and it would be so nice to have a wax before going so that I don't have to worry about it. Has anyone had it done?

How long does it last?

Honestly does it hurt?

Is it worth it? (will i really not have to worry about shaving for a week?)

opinions, please!

Re: Bikini wax? Do I have the guts?

  • I get Brazilian waxes all the time. I mean if you are going to go through the pain you may as well go all out! Usually when I get it it lasts about 2-3 weeks before any hair growth. I personally think it is well worth it. And honestly I am sure your fiancee will not mind. As far as the pain, I mean obviously it is painful to a certain extent. If you go to a good place that specializes in waxing you should be fine. You can take tylenol or something else before. I always have them use the hard wax- I feel this is less painful but it depends on your hair type. I do think it is well worth the pain. Personally I think you should just get a Brazilian rather than just the bikini line, it is your honeymoon :)
  • Ditto PP on everything, especially finding someone who KNOWS what they are doing! Don't go to the local nail salon, because usually they are not the best. You may have to pay more for the real deal, but it's worth it, trust me.

Also don't go the week before or during your period, if you can help it. You're usually more sensitive to pain at this time.

I definitely started with a simple bikini line wax and then did a Brazilian, after I knew what to expect. You can experiement with leaving a landing strip or going completely bare. See which one of your FI likes best (mine likes a little hair).

Oh and word of warning! They may want to do wax your anus. This freaks a lot of people out, and you don't have to do it, but this is like the least painful part. It is just awkward for some people.

The more you go, the softer your hair will get and the less it will hurt. I have been going now for about 2 years, never shaving in between (this sets you back in terms of getting soft hair), and now it's really NBD.

  • My Brazilian lasted my 9 day HM. It hurt and I would not do it again (although I now know it gets better--but it hurts the first time.) I went to an Aveda spa. You definetely want to go to a reputable place.
  • I have done it before and will do it again, there is pain but worth the reward. The one suggestion I would made is not shaving the week before... This way the wax has enough hair to attach to.
  • I have been going back and forth about doing this also.  Did anyone have any negative effects??? Red bumps, itchy skin etc?? I have senstive skin and I'm afraid of that.

<div>If you have never done it before, I would suggest doing a test run, just to make sure you are not allergic to their materials or have any crazy side effects. You also want to like your technician and feel comfortable. You might feel especially nervous doing it for the first time right before your wedding, KWIM?</div><div>
</div><div> If you don;t want to do that, I would suggest going about 3-5 days before the wedding just to make sure it isn't red anymore. I'm always red and sensitive for a day or 2 after. </div>

<div>Good Idea. I don't have sensitive skin, I've had waxing done before just not "there". I've (knock on wood) never had an allergic reaction to anything on my skin. But I am going to take your advice, and go like 5 days before... just so theres no more redness (and so it will still last through our honeymoon the next week). thanks!</div><div>
</div><div>also- after everyone was mentioning to make sure it was "hard wax" i looked into the place, and yes it is hard wax. whew.. the strips sounded scary :-/</div>

  • I haven't done a brazillian, but get 'regular' bikini waxes all the time. Like PPs have said, I would go at least once before the 'big day' to see how you react. When I first started going, it was red for longer than I am now.
  • Yeah, it's no big deal, the pain is so minimal compared to the benefits of having it done. YAY BRAZILLIAN!!!
  • Check these guys out!  http://www.waxcenter.com/locations/FL/Open

I go to them in Houston and its pretty great. I wanted to start waxing for my wedding too and just went in. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Obviously it isn't 100% pain free but it wasn't bad I promise.

They only do waxing, not hair dyeing, nails nothing. Also I thought there would be strips but they was what I guess is called a hard wax so they don't need a strip.

Best part your first time is completely free and the prices aren't bad regularly.

Would definitely reccomend them. They have a lot of centers so maybe there is one by you?

[QUOTE]Errr...did you ask if he's into Brazilians? I know a lot of guys who dislike.

<div>My FI definitely prefers a little hair in a landing strip, because he feels like he's with a 12 year old otherwise, but as long as it's "out of the way", as in, um, mostly off of the lips, he's good. </div><div>
</div><div>Maybe I am just brainwashed by porn and our society, but I just have a hard time believing any dude would be straight up <em>pissed</em> if his GF/FI/W went and got a Brazilian as a surprise. If FI had been upset about it, I would have been pissed. All that pain for him to biitch? lol </div>

  • I do Brazilian waxes all the time.  And I think they are well worth the pain.  I've never had any reaction to a wax besides initial redness after the wax, however, when I have shaved instead I get ingrown hairs and razor burn, and in my opinion if you go to someone who knows what they're doing having your upper lip waxed is more painful haha.  If they do it right it doesn't take long.

Mine always last at least a month and honestly I don't have to usually worry with any new "maintenance" until about 6 weeks out because the hairs that grow back are sparse and fine.
