Sephora makeup artist question...

I'm having my makeup done, airbrushed, at Sephora the day of my wedding. There is no fee per-say to have the makeup done, however, you do have to make a $50 purchase in the store. My question is, do I also give the artist who does my makeup a tip? I have never had my makeup done there before and I don't know what the norm to do is :/ Thanks in advance for any advice/tips.

I probably wouldn't tip. To me, you're not paying to get your makeup done, you're basically trying products to determine what to buy (and you do have to buy something at the end). I guess I would see it like tipping the sample lady at the grocery store.

I'm interested to hear what everyone else thinks.

Edit - wait, I missed the part about it being on your wedding day (duh). That could change things slightly since this isn't just a random, go in and get a makeover to try new products. Maybe call the store and see what the normal practice is?

  • I am going in for engagement pics next week and do not plan to tip... although if the general thought on this thread is that I should then maybe I will...
  • I'm planning on doing the same thing, I want to go try it out first though.

  • I believe that they cannot accept tips.  I had a trial at Sephora and went to give the MUA a tip.  She said was not allowed to take it.  You could always offer and see what she (or he) says.

I took my dtr for a makeover and the thought of tipping never even crossed my mind. I guess that's because it was a free service, just had to buy products. Were you able to make an appointment there? My Sephora told me they couldnt make appointments because it depends on how busy they are with customers. They also told me that they couldn't do all makeup, I could only pick from foundation, eyes, or lips. Is this only my Sephora?

The Sephora I went to did take appointments,  <div>
<div>It looks like they may have renamed the special occasion makeover to "customized makeup application"  Check out the link (<a href="http://www.sephora.com/go/beautystudio/index.jhtml" rel="nofollow">clicky</a>)</div></div>
