DIY Make-up: Foundation/Powder Help

What affordable foundation/powder works the best for long lasting wedding make-up? We are getting married indoors, in a very well lit area. The reception is in a darker hotel ballroom. I just dont want to look cakey or powdery or flawed for my wedding... We are paying for the wedding ourselves so I'm looking for affordable makeup that wont break the bank.

Any ideas?!?!?!

What kind of skin do you have? That plays a lot into your choices. If you choose the right shades and textures, you won't look cakey. I always suggest moisturizer, liquid foundation and thick concealer, set with matching or translucent powder, blush (liquid, creme or powder depending on your skin type), bronzer powder to contour your face,  and then eye primer followed by your eye regimen, then finish with lipstick and gloss (if desired).

I like the Clinique line for liquid foundation, but at $30 for a bottle, it has been out of my price range recently (darn student loans!). I like the Almay blemish healing foundation, but I have oily, acne-prone skin. I have some eyeshadow from The Balm that I'm totally in love with if I set the base properly (eye primer).

It all depends on the look you're going for. I suggest a more natural look for the ceremony and then touch up your eyes with a bit darker shadow for the reception.

Wet 'n' Wild eyeshadow performs every bit as well as my high-end brands, and at $2.99 for a trio or $5.99 for an 8-pan, you can't beat the price.

For foundation, Revlon Colorstay is great and it won't break the bank.

And DO NOT mix it up with NYC products. Totally NOT the same. I also know Target carries E.L.F. products which are also dirt cheap.

I have dry skin, so foundation is tough for me. I also really like a dewy look instead of a powdery one. And I'm allergic to most SPF. So, this won't be helpful for your budget, but I recommend Make Up Forever's HD liquid foundation. 

This is sort of sketchy, but if you really wanted to, Sephora has a 60-day return policy even if the product has been used entirely. You could buy something for your wedding and return it if you won't be using it again. Not that I advocate this...

I am a makeup artist and what I use on brides is Sonia Kaschuk Luminous foundation.  You can get this at Target.  It is an incredible foundation.  I think a lot of girls feel like they need very expensive makeup but I've tried practically every makeup out there and I have not found a really expensive makeup that is any better than others.  i also love NARS loose powder to set the base because it provides a really smooth finish.  Good luck!
