Making my hair grow?

I have medium length hair, just below my shoulders and my fiance LOVES long hair, I have been growing it out, but I really want long hair for my wedding. Is there any helpful tips?

Re: Making my hair grow?

  • Your hair grows on average 1/2 inch per month.  I have been taking prenatal vitamins and I must say, it works.  Keep up with regular trims to trim off any dead ends.  On my wedding day, I wore clip in extensions to give me the length and volume I wanted.
  • I'm right there with you! five inches to grow by October and just remember to keep trimming it to keep it healthy!
  • I was going to suggest the prenatal vitamins as well. Added benefit- nails get much stronger. Of course, this is my experience not a dr's opinion.

  • Eat healthy and drink lots of water!! The vitamins will help also. Everything we put in our bodies comes out through our hair, skin and nails! Also invest in a good salon quality shampoo and conditioner and a nice leave in treatment to help prevent the ends from splitting! (my favorite is "it's a 10" miracle leave in treatment ) keep the heat styling to a minimum! Treat your hair nice and it will grow long and gorgeous!
  • I would suggest trying biotin over prenatal vitamins unless you are also trying to conceive.  I use biotin and definitely helps your hair grow, strengthens your nails, and helps your skin.

If you have been here awhile, you may know that I have very thin, fine, damaged hair (hence why I wear extensions).  A girl on TN told me about this stuff and in less than a month of using it, I can already see a difference.  My hair doesn't look great yet, but it's certainly better and for the first time in forever, I am wearing my hair down again without extensions.  I just added the hair mask to my routine this week.  Love this stuff!

<div>I have no experience with prenatal vitamins, but I have tried biotin.  It all depends on the person, but I had a very bad experience with it.  I was taking 1000 mcg (less than the dosage that was recommended to me) and I experienced horrible breakouts all over my face.  I later found out that this is a common side effect of biotin supplements. Everyone reacts to supplements differently, so this may not happen - but I wanted to point out that it could happen.</div>

Yes, this can happen but it only happens to a small percentage of people who take it.  Really though, you can get a reaction like that from just about anything you take.

  • I take a multivitamin as well as a biotin supplement. To PP who had the bad reaction to biotin, I never experienced any side effects like that - sorry that happened to you!

I agree that regular trims, a balanced diet and quality hair products really do make a difference.

  • Hot oil treatment.  You can go to a salon for this.  But my sister and I have started doing these at home.  We just use olive oil, put it in a mug, and put that mug in a pan of water on the stove to heat it.  Then you just massage it into your scalp and all the way down the length of your hair.  Leave it on for half an hour and then shampoo it out.  Tada!  Super moisturized hair that grows longer.  :)

Biotin also helps.  And also either eat or drink jell-o.  I like hot jell-o, so that's what I do.  The gelatin helps your hair grow.
