Foundation Samples?

Is it common to get samples of foundation at the make-up counters in Sephora/Ulta/Nordstrom? I would like to invest in some good make-up like Smashbox, Laura Mercer, etc. (any suggestions welcome.) But I am worried that I won't like a brand and I don't want to waste that much money buying a whole bottle or be commited to make a purchase if the MUA at the counter did my makeup.

Most will give you a sample in a little tub if you ask.  Not sure about the more self-serve places like Sephora or Ulta, but I'd think that if you brought little tubs (you can actually get great foundation travel tubs at REI), I can't imagine that it would be an issue.

I've never tried getting samples at Ulta but Sephora will give samples if you ask.

Always ask before you sit, a few places are like - $40 for the application redeemable in product - most places are free.<div>
</div><div>That said - Laura Mercier is amazing - go there.  The foundation primer is life changing.  I am so, so cheap - so cheap.  But I spend a freaking fortune on her primer/tinted moisturizer and absolutely love it.  Ask them to show you tight lining, too.  (I swear I don't work for or sell this stuff!)</div><div>

I just recently switched to Laura Mercier and bought it at Sephora- I wasn't sure between 2 shades and they told me I could return it if I didn't like it once I got home and used it.  So I would say try at the store then bring it home and try and if you don't like it, just return it!

My favorite foundation is actually only available out of the states - becasue of this, they offer samples you can order for $1. totally worth it if you ask me.
