Eye primer and face primer?

Are these the same thing? Do I need a separate primer for my eyes as I do for my face? Or if I swipe my face primer across my eyes, will it work for eye make up?

  • They're different.  Plus, not all primers are safe for the skin around your eyes (or if they happen to get into your eyes somehow).

I know you weren't looking for suggestions, but this one is highly recommended in the beauty supply world (I use it also):

  • yes, 2 seperate things. I love Urban Decay's Shadow Potion for my eyes. I feel like I get a better look and wear out of the shadow when I use it.

For face I also like their (UD) All Nighter which is more of a setting spray than a primer. I have also had good results from Smashbox's Photofinish primer.

  • As crazy as it sounds, I use the Monistat chafing gel. It was recommended by several people on this board as the ingredients are almost exactly that of smashbox...and it's cheaper. There are also many reviews of this online. I love it! I haven't used an eye primer yet but I should since I'm always wiping my eyeliner off my eye creases!

Be careful with that around your eye. Considering the original purpose of the gel, it hasn't been tested for safety in the eye region.
  • And those two things will get you the most bang for your buck of any makeup product.

I use either the Urban Decay or Two Faced eye shadow primers and they are both awesome.

I use the Pur Minerals green face primer and my dry red skin loves it.
  • I swear by Urban Decay Primer Potion. I've been using it for years.

I recently decided to try the Monistat Chafing Gel as a face primer, and I'm quite happy with it. I have skin that is both oily and dry (thanks, Retin-A), and it works well. It even helps my makeup feel less gross on my skin. I hate the feel of foundation.
  • I use Urban Decay Primer Potion on my eyes.  It looks as if it will last forever.  A little goes a long way.

As for face primer, I've found that some primers work better with some foundations.  When I wear mineral powder foundation, I think Tarte's Recreate primer works best.  When I'm using cream or liquid foundation, I prefer to use Make Up For Ever HD primer.  I've also used the monistat.  For me, it didn't seem to do much.  But a lot of people do swear by it.
  • I use the monistat chafing gel for my face (honestly is amazing, I can't even believe it... )... however I bought a simple eye shadow primer by E.L.F. at Target (for $1-$3!!!) and it works exactly the same as sephora for 1/10 of the cost. I'd recommend it to anyone.  :)

<div>I paid $1 for the E.L.F. eye primer, and after years of spending $12-$20 on primer before, I can't believe I wasted so much money. It definitely gets the job done.</div>
