tanning lotion?

Can anyone reccomend a good tanning lotion that wouldnt turn me orange? I am pretty fair skin and i want to have a nice light tan for the wedding because im wearing a white dress, and with out hte tan i look super washed out. Anyway, tanning in the sun isnt really an option for me.
I actually went to get a spray tan on saturday and it came out horriable!! I looked awful that 1st day but i was hopeful in thinking once i showered i would look a little more human. Nope i was bright orange! And to make it worse I had a suprise shower on sunday lol. And monday it started peeling off all over my chest. Its really awful lol. Iv had spray tans before that came out pretty good and more or less faded away. This one was airbrush so maybe thats why? Im just really glad i went for a trail before the wedding!
So anyway, my wedding is august 17th, a little over a month left to get a nice glow. I figured i would ask her to see if any of you ladys had any good suggestions.
TIA!

Re: tanning lotion?

  • Jergens works great, just make sure you wash your hands after you apply it or your hands will turn slightly orange. Depending on how pale you are, like i'm really pale, no matter what self tanner you use - There's always going to be a slight orange tint.
Did you ever go to this airbrush tanner prior to going on Saturday?
I also got airbrushed last Tuesday and starting peeling on my chest. I contacted the place and they basically told me it's because of sweating. Everyone has different acid in their skin and depending on where the tan is the acid might make it peel or turn orange. She also told me if you use a shower scrub and you don't rinse it off well the scrub may sit under the tan and that is what pulled it off. They offered me another tanning session, but I declined.

If you've gotten other spray tans that you liked, you should go to them. I believe spray tans are always better then self tanners!

    Hope this helps :-)

</div><div>I LOVE Jergens, I use this and I've found that I had to start using medical gloves because of what you described!

  • I had good luck with the Loreal wipes. I reccomend using a mositurzing body wash though because it started to dry out my skin because of all the alcohol in the product. I'm suprised you weren't happy with the airbrushing, I would try to find another salon and let them know your concerned. Airbrushing will def. be more consistent than DIY self-tanners or spray tans. On more than one occasion I have had oompa-looma hands.
I like the jergen's daily gradual face moisturizer, I've been using that for years. I didn't like their body self tanner, I thought it smelled awful. I was so self-concious I actually took it back because I felt like I reaked at work.

  • I'm fair skinned too and found that Jergens turned me orange and left that obvious self tanner look. I recently bought Clinique Self Sun and it's the best self tanning lotion I've tried. It is tinted, so you see where it goes on your skin. Color shows up in a few hours. What I usually do is apply it after exfoliating in the shower at night. I wait about 20 minutes before getting dressed then shower in the morning because it does have that tell-tale smell. Nice subtle glow. Clinique has a great return policy, so if you try it and don't like the results, you can return for a refund.

  • I would also recommend getting an applicator mitt.  I bought one at Ulta but they also have them at Sephora.  It really helped me keep it even.  I use the Jergens for fair to medium and it does not turn me orange and I am pretty fair.  I also use this cream called Amlactin to help with exfoliating.  Before I went to the Dominican this year  I applied the amlactic at bed for about a week before I started using the self tanner.  Then I would use the self-tanner at night and regular moisturizer in the morning.   The amlactin I get a CVS and it was recommended to me by my dermatologist because sometimes I get tiny red bumps on the back of my arms.

Years ago, when I worked for Estee Lauder, the best by far was Clarins.  I read that they are still one of the best ones I am just too cheap to buy it anymore.
