Does anyone else have this problem?

When I get nervous or upset, my skin on my chest, back and shoulders almost always breaks out in red blotches. Not attractive. I'm worried this will happen to me while I'm walking down the aisle or standing up in front of everyone.  Does this happen to anyone else?  What can I do to calm it or prevent it from happening?

  • Yes, this happens to me.  I was extremely self-conscious about being all red on my wedding day.  My MUA helped me out a little bit by airbrushing my chest.  TBH, I don't really think there is a whole lot you can do besides relax.  When I got my pro pics back, I didn't notice any redness.

Have a glass of wine and breathe! GL!

  • I get the same thing except only on my chest and shoulders. I haven't been able to solve the issue personally but I'm also a very nervous person by nature...

This is the exact advice that I'd give. My MUA also airbrushed my chest & shoulders to even me out & to cover a dark area I have on my shoulder. That will help. If you're concerned that it might show through, then ask her to put full foundation over the whole area and then airbrush over it. That combination is unlikely to let redness show through.
  • I have this problem too.  Drinking cool water and taking deep breaths seems to calm it a little, but it's basically a version of blushing, so all you can do is put on some makeup in that area and try to remain calm.
  • My sister has that issue.  Before she has to do something like give a presentation that would make her break out she drinks some cold water and does some relaxation breathing.  Beyond that she tries to cover up the area to be safe.  When she needs to wear strapless stuff she's just used a long lasting foundation on her with primer beforehand.

  • Thanks ladies, all good tips.  I will talk to my MUA when we do my trial to see what she can do.  I did some more research, and I found that it's caused by a spike of histamine in your blood, which is coupled with adrenaline.  Some sources I found say to take a non-drowsy anti-histamine one hour before then one half hour before you are expecting to be in front of a crowd.  I'll test it... hopefully something will help!

This might explain why I wasn't so blotchy.  I was sick as a dog the week of my wedding, so I was doped up on Claritin.  So, yes I concur -- it helps!
