Vitamins for Acne??

I need help!! My face is breaking out and my wedding is three months away so I need to clear up my skin asap! Are there any vitamins I can take to help??

Re: Vitamins for Acne??

  • I don't know about vitamins, but drinking extra water, exfoliating and using moisturizer can all help.

If you're in your mid-twenties or older, acne fighting things (proactive, things with salyciclic acid, etc.) can  make breakouts worse.
  • My BFF is trying the B-vitamin regimin for reducing acne, and it's not working like she was told.  I don't know much about it other than I know she takes a isht load of B vitamins before going to bed everynight.  She's disappointed in the results.  I take vitamin E and fish oil, which I believe help my skin in addition to drinking tons of water, but that's just me.

I'd make an appointment to talk to a derm asap, since you only have 3 months, and it typically takes 6-8 weeks to see results from any meds for clearing up acne.

  • Having dealt with acne all my life, I swear by getting facials done! I get facials and peels monthly, and instantly my skin clears up! there's a woman in queens who does them at a very affordable price hrazawi@yahoo.com. so convient, and best of all your skin looks great after she's done! ( & she's not that far, she's in Queens!)
  • A good peel may help. VI Peels are amamzing.

  • Try using natural products.  I use Tea Tree oil when I break out and it seems to heal a lot faster than using otc products.  I also wash my face with cetaphil, and use witch hazel as a toner.  You could also take the witch hazel and mix it with a few drops of tea tree oil and use that as a toner too to prevent breakouts.  Also be sure to use a facial scrub 1-2 times a week.

I have suffered with acne most my life, I've tried pretty much everything on the market.  I feel that the all natural stuff works best.

  • Go to a dermatologist if you can. The only thing that made a real difference for me was oral antibiotics plus a combination of prescription topical treatments.
  • I echo the dermatologist recommendation if you can.

I have pretty obnoxious acne myself, like huge zits that camp out on my face for weeks at a time.  I tried nearly every product in the drugstore, but nothing cleared up my skin.  Based on a recommendation from one of my bridesmaids, I bought the Clinique 3 Step acne regimine.  So now I use a makeup remover, the 3 step, and then a moisturizer.  I will caution you, I had the WORST breakout of my life about 10 days after I started it, but that cleared up and things have been awesome since.  Consensus was that the toner was drawing out all the nastyness and so I basically got every pimple I would have had in the next 2 months all at once.
  • I've been dealing with Acne since I was 13. While I can keep it down to decent levels on my own, the only thing that really gives me clear skin is Minocycline, which is an oral antibiotic. It does take about 6-8 weeks to fully work. I've been on it for about 5 months now, and I can honestly say, I do not have a single pimple today (Which ROCKS because I have formal military ball tonight.) There are plenty of OTC soaps and cremes that help, but your best best is to see a derm, or even your primary doc can prescribe it.
  • When I started getting acne, what helped me was prescription creams and birth control pills.  I've been doing both for about 4 months and I haven't had a breakout in about two months.  After about a month the acne cleared up a lot.  It does take time, so start doing something ASAP.  Also be mindful of what makeup you put on your face.
  • This might be a little extreme, but maybe you can get a prescription for Predisone?  I had a 10 day prescription for my wisdom teeth surgery and let me tell you, it did amazing things for my skin!!!
  • Prednisone is NOT something to mess around with.  It's a steroid.  Many people have really bad side effects include massive swelling, amongst other things.

  • Prednisone can cause you to gain massive amounts of weight. I wouldn't recommend it.
  • Go to a dermatologist. My FI and sister both take tetracyclene (sp?) and that helps them
  • Get advice from a dermatologist.  This was what I did when I face the same problem. and drink extra water.
  • As PPs said, a dermatologist can help.

But if you don't want to go the prescription route, I had really good results taking pure chelated zinc for a few months. I bought the Whole Foods brand, and it really did clear up my skin, and it has the added benefit of boosting the immune system and preventing colds. It's not expensive, either, just make sure you buy "chelated zinc," which is the most potent form.

If you want to try that, however, just make sure it doesn't interact with any prescription drugs/other supplements you are taking. You might want to check with a doc or pharmacist. Also, you must eat a balanced diet, as zinc supplements can throw your other minerals, especially copper, out of balance in your body.

With that said, I think it's worth a try. A lot of people also recommend fish oil supplements.
