Wedding Dress Cost

What is the average cost of a wedding dress...?  I've found one that I have fallen in love with....I'll be going to try it on...it's right around 1200.  When the rep told me the price, I wasn't taken aback.
I'd like to know what price range others have stayed in to meet budget.  We've just started the wedding planning, but this dress is so me.
I kinda thought that if it looks as great on as I think it will...I can get the dress purchase done...!
Our date is set for September 24, 2011...

With Demetrios that's about right for price.  I don't really understand your question because if that's the dress you want and you "weren't" taken aback by the price then try it on and if it it's what you want then buy it.

My dress was around $850.  It was a Casablanca.  I bought it myself but also had a budget where I told myself I wouldn't pay  more than $1000 (before taxes) on my dress.

I'd also warn you to not by the dress so soon.  You're quite far out from your wedding.  If it were me, I'd wait until about 9 months or less before the wedding to buy the dress.  Otherwise, you run the risk of finding another dress coming out that is more 'you' than the one you bought.  If you do decide to buy the dress now, definitely STOP looking at wedding dresses.  It will just make you more confused.

My dress was around $1200 before tax and alterations.

Dresses run between a few hundred to several thousands. I think you should develop your wedding budget and determine how much of it you want to spend on your dress. The Knot has a budget calculator that gives you an idea what each part of the wedding should cost, however each person can adjust the budget according to what's most important to them and their priorities ....

My dress was $650, its a Maggie Sottero. Like Mariah, I set a limit.
I bought my dress in April 2009 and am getting married next week. If this is the one and you decide to buy it, definitely stop looking at any other dresses!

My dress was only $350.  I definitely did not have a lot of money to spend on my dress.

Mine was about $900ish.  I bought mine with less than six months to go before the wedding so I was in a time crunch--or so I felt.  I definitely agree with Mariah though about not buying it too early and, if you do buy it now, don't look at any more dresses.

Mine is $600... I found it for $900, then called around to other stores to find out if they had a better price.  But yes, you are far off... if you love it, buy it.  If you buy it, quit looking... it'll drive you crazy.

Also don't get your heart set on it--you may hate it once you try it on.

My dress was originally $1800, discounted $300.  Dresses run the gamut so I agree--determine your budget and then don't try ANY dress on that is outside of it.  Like I did.

My budget was $1000 or less.  I ordered the Mori Lee dress at a trunk show for $625.

I was afraid that I was ordering mine early (ordered this past March for an April 2011 wedding), but I wasn't that big on looking at dresses to begin with, so I know that I won't be looking at more from here on out.

Mine was $1450 (before taxes, shipping, alterations...), and I bought it about a year before the wedding. I haven't looked at any other dresses- and I don't feel the need to. I am having quite a bit of alterations done to it, so it worked out well that i ordered it so far in advance.

Thank you for the feedback.  I'm gonna try the dress...and I think that if it fits right, the budget can handle it, I'll get it and work to be sure it's like a glove come my wedding day.
I like the idea of being able to focus on the wedding part...being done with the dress!!!
    I don't know.
I'll post when I go see the dress...

BTW, I didn't mean that I wasn't taken aback....as though that kind of money is just sitting around....I didn't have a reaction because I expected it to be much more expensive...that's why I was asking what the going price is for a wedding dress...
