real nails or tips?

I'm curious as to what others are doing. Are you getting false nails for your wedding day or simply going natural?

I'm a (semi) reformed nail bitter.  I really want to have natural nails because I hate long nails.

Re: real nails or tips?

  • I'm doing my natural nails. I just buy Sally Hanson's DIY french tip kit. It has stickers that you stick on and paint over. I love it!

I used them for rush and half the sorority had me do their nails because they loved how they turned out!

  • I'm getting a professional manicure, but no tips (hopefully).
  • I am doing schlak (sp?).  It's similiar to gellish/gel nails.  No filing of your real nails and they last for 2 weeks.  No chipping.  I love it!  I tried it for my bridal shower and plan to keep going through my wedding.

  • I couldn't really vote. I keep my natural nails long, but they do break easily, so if I have one broken one, I'd probably add a tip to make it the same as the others. I'd prefer to not need tips.

i'm going to try this since a friend just told me about it and probably go this route.  i dont' want to feel weird and be fidgeting with fake nails all day.  and polish always tends to chip off so quickly on me (ok i pick it off too) so this stuff sounds like it could be good for me!
  • Depends on how long my nails are. I usually have pretty long nails well not long long just alittle long.

  • I've had UV gels for over 10 years. So that will be what I'm having on my wedding day.

  • I love the shellac nails.  Short nails with shellac will last a solid two weeks.  I'm getting a french manicure for the big day, instead of painting them.  i'm getting a shellac pedicure too, but only because the chlorine always kills my regualr nail polish and we are going on vacation for 10 nights.  Worth the extra $ to look good through out the trip.

If you tend to pick, be aware that the Shellac manicure can peel off. In fact, after I had mine for a week and a half, I ended up peeling it as it had started to crack.
  • A friend just told me about getting a shellac pedicure.  It sounds awesome!  I think I'll do that for my wedding too.

I have found that it will crack after about almost two weeks because my natural nails underneath may break around the edges.  I had this happen to one yesterday and I just filed it down so it still looks fine.  It is defitinely better for short nails unless you have real strong nails that aren't too flexible and break like mine.  It definitely will outlast a regular french manicure that tended to chip on me within 3 days.

  • I love the way short, solid color nails look. It's just very classic, IMO.

I'm not a fan of French or fake or long nails.

  • I'm just going with my natural nails. They're pretty long on their own and I've never had tips or fake ones so I think I would feel awkward if I did.
  • I'm doing natural. FI hates fake nails!

  • Sally Hansen makes an at home product that claims to make your nails as strong as if you had acrylic overlay done.  I've been using it for a couple of weeks, and find my nails are much hardier, look shiny and awesome, and grow really quick when I'm using it.  Love it.

I had UV Gels once upon a time, but FI isn't a fan.  I have a feeling I'm going to get a nice manicure, and keep them short, and dark.

  • I work in health care, so I can't have polish or artificial nails.  Whatever I do will have to come off before I go back to work.  And I've never met a polish that didn't chip in less than 24 hours.

I've never had long nails-I chewed them terribly as a kid and they are pretty flexible and bend/break easily.  I'm going to the salon Thursday after I take my final to try to find out what my options are.

I can get a pedicure, and that polish will stay on for SIX weeks without chipping--why won't a manicure last more than 24 hours?  (I don't really expect an anwer)

  • I had an OPI Soak Off lacquer manicure done on Saturday in Moon Over Mumbai and I love it!  It was a little time intensive, but when comparing it to the two times before I had acrylic tips, this is so much easier to work with and just makes my nails look "finished" without overdoing it. And I love that it doesn't chip, too.
