Liquid foundations

If you use a liquid foundation, what is your favorite?  I normally use mineral makeup and was told absolutely not to use it on my wedding day.  I got a liquid (but can't remember which) that I'm not a huge fan of.  Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: Liquid foundations

  • May I ask why you were told you shouldn't use mineral makeup?

I am currently using Teint Miracle by Lancome. It's really amazing! It's a natural look, more dewy than matte, but it makes you look as if you're glowing due to having great skin, not glowing due to wearing heavy makeup. The Lancome beauty clerk advised me to use a mineral setting powder over the foundation...which is why I'm curious as to why mineral makeup shouldn't be used. I haven't bought the setting powder yet, just the foundation!

  • I saw on a few boards and articles that mineral makeup wasn't good for pictures, especially for flash photography.  I called my photographer and he absolutely agreed and recommended I do a liquid because the minerals reflect light and don't always look good.

Thanks for the recommendation!  I may have to check that out!

Ya, that is correct :) I have proof, if you want it. Self depricating proof. LOL! I use MakeupForeverHD
  • I second the Makeup Forever HD liquid.  It's a little heavy for everyday use but has great covereage (which I desperately need!) for a special occasion.
  • I third Makeup Forever HD.  And I also agree that it's not for everyday use, but excellent for photography and special occasions.
  • I have Laura Mercier Oil Free foundation, but it's a very light foundation. Anything on my face feels really gross, so this is one of the better ones for that.
  • I tried the Makeup forever HD foundation due to all the amazing reviews it gets on these boards, and did not like it AT ALL. It did have great coverage and looked good in pictures, but in person it totally looked unnatural and caked on. As someone who uses bare minerals for my every day makeup, I don't like to look like my makeup is caked on... I like a natural look, and Makeup forever was wayy too thick. I don't have any other recommendations, but i just wanted to share that.
  • I've been experimenting for my DIY makeup and right now am using Revlon Color Stay. I've heard that it is quite comparable to MAC at a fraction of the price. I've only used it a few times, but it has really good staying power. I used the combination skin formula and don't have any shiny patches at the end of the day, which is not something I can say for my usual Lorac foundation (which isn't cheap).

To set it I use a Tarte finishing poweder. I can't think of the name, but it supposedly has Amazonian clay in it. It is feather light and feels very soft on the skin. I also suggest using a primer so that your liquid foundation has more staying power.

  • I normally use mineral make-up, but recently tried a new Mary Kay liquid foundation.  it doesn't rub off like I remember when I used to wear liquid foundation.  Thanks for the tip about photos, I didn't know that liquid foundations wqs a must.

  • I agree that Revlon ColorStay has serious staying power. I wore it for a dance recital, and while I added some more powder every couple hours, I had it on for 12 hours no problem. I actually find it difficult to wash off, so I wouldn't want to wear it for daily use.
  • I use Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. Its expensive but feels incredible, and I wanted to splurge for my wedding.
  • I have Arbonne liquid foundation. It's AMAZING! Covers my freckles, acne, you name it.

  • honestly, foundations are tricky because they work differently for different skin types. they also work better/not as well with different moisturizer and primer combos. you're going to have to do some experimenting to decide what works best with you.

but i can say having a lot of experience with makeup, makeup forever HD looks amazing in photos, and with the right primer, it's not cakey or heavy. i actually don't consider it to be heavy coverage. it can definitely be built up to your liking. go to sephora and tell them you'd like to try a few foundations and use each for a few days.

people also really like chanel pro lumiere for weddings, and the giorgio armani foundation is beyond fantastic, but very pricey
