Bullet-prood make up?

Hi Ladies - any one have any suggestions for make up that just won't come off?  My skin tends to get oily and makes my make-up come off on a regular day - I can't imaging one my wedding day when I will be sweaty and kissing and hugging people!  I have used Smashbox, Urban Decay and Too Faced primers and no help.

Also, any suggestions on stay-put lipstick.  I have tried Revlon 24 hour Color Stay - it makes my lips sticky and dry at the same time.  The color definitly does stay, but it is uncomfortable on my lips.

Thanks for your suggestions!

  • I'm going to use Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray and Clinique Chubby Stick.

  • MAC seems to be really good for staying on.   Have you thought about having a make up artist?  If you do airbrushed makeup looks really good, and everyone I've talked to about it says that it stays on forever.
  • Hi,

I found out about some on the Lisa Eldridge(?) makeup tutorial site and have tried them via free makeup applications/samples from department stores. They are Guerlaine parure extreme (foundation) and Chanel poudre universalle libre (powder), Daniel Sandler watercolour (blush). Whilst I have not yet tried that brand of blush, I was very happy with the foundation and powder. Also, for mascara, Loreal lash architect 4D is even hard to get off with makeup remover. For lipstick, I like lipfinity (2 step system) which I think is Max Factor without digging into my makeup drawer. Hope this helps and good luck.
  • I too have oily skin issues.  Really bad oily skin issues.  My plan of action is Dr. Brandt pore refiner, which shrinks the appearance of pores and sucks up the oil, an oil-free foundation, Smashbox finishing powder which also banishes oil, and then Urban Decay Setting spray which keeps makeup in place and keeps skin oil free.  I also plan to use oil blotting sheets (which I use everyday anyway) throughout the day to keep my makeup fresh.

    HTH!
  • I really like the Makeup forever HD finishing powder.  It slows/stops oil production really well, and lasts for about 6-8 hours (I will probably do a touch up before reception on the wedding day, but on normal days I don't have any problems, maybe by about 8 hours into my day I start to see a little shine on my forehead, but I use blotting paper for that).  I have never tried the Urban Decay makeup setting spray but I've heard really good things about it.

As far as the colorstay lipstick goes, I get what you're saying about how it feels sticky and dry, but you do have to keep reapplying the gloss layer that comes with it.  I usually just keep a little lip balm with me and reapply that on top of the Colorstay throughout the day.

  • I used MUFE HD primer, foundation, and finishing powder.  Then I set my makeup with Urban Decay All Nighter.  As for long lasting lipstick, I like L'oreal Infallible.  It lasts pretty long and isn't overly drying.  The only setback is that the color selection isn't great.  I also like Nars Velvet Matte Lip pencil.  It lasts long and it's matte without being too dry.

As for eyeliner.  I like Stila Stay All Day liquid liner when I want a pen.  If you want a cream, I can't say enough about MUFE aqua cream liner.  The lasting power is amazing, yet it's surprisingly easy to get off with a little eyemakeup remover.  If you want a pencil, MUFE aqua eyes pencil is really good.

Personally, I find that Nars and Tarte make really long lasting blushes.  Nars might have a slight edge over Tarte, and Nars pigmentation is out of this world.  Nars also makes eyeshadows that really resist creasing when used with primer.

As for mascara, I don't really wear waterproof because it's not good for the lashes.  On my wedding day, I used DiorShow Blackout in waterproof as my finishing mascara.
  • I loved L'Oreal Infallible lipstick - you can see my review here:

I've also had good luck with primers to help your foundation stay on (Urban Decay and Smashbox make really good primers), but you may also want to consider using a MUA to do airbrush foundation.

  • When I use primer and then a setting spray everything stays in place and I have to scrub my face a little harder to get my make up off.

  • Look into the Makeup Forever long lasting makeup spray (I cant remember the name.) I used it for sorority rush, in August, in Louisiana..and my makeup stayed all day.

  • Hi! I'm a makeup artist in the Phoenix area and use a combination of products to keep my brides looking their best all day and night!  I know that you said that the Primer's haven't work - but have you tried a primer and a setting spray?
I would apply a primer before your foundation, MAC's prep and prim is my favorite. For eyes, use Urban Decay's Primer Potion OR Too Faced's Shadow insurance. Make sure to use a setting/finishing powder over your foundation and finish it off with a setting spray - Urban Decay's All-Nighter. All my bride's have been VERY pleased with the fact that their makeup has lasted all night.

You also may want to invest in a little more pricey foundation and eyeshadows. MAC, Clinique, Face Atelier, and Chanel all have really great foundations and eyeshadows that last.

As far as your lips go - If you don't want to buy a lip primer that you'll only use once, I would use a lipliner, apply the lip color, blot. Apply the lip color again, powder it with setting powder, apply the lip color again. Should last all day! Either that or Clinque's Chubby Stick is great and so are MAC's lip colors.

Please be careful not to use a powder like MUFE HD.  It contains silica which, when photographed with flash, looks white.

Long lasting foundations I recommend for oily skin:
    Revlon Colorstay
    MUFE Mat+
    Estee Lauder Double Wear
    MAC Studio Finish

Get samples though and test them with and without flash!
