I am hiring someone so it's less stressful for me. It is a bigger cost to me, but I want my makeup to stay on for my whole day without having to worry about it. I also want airbrush done! The only con is that it's more expensive and if you hire a professional for your bridesmaids you would be expected to pay for this yourself.

  • If you are requiring your BM to get their hair and/or makeup done, you should pay. I couldn't afford it, so I told them they could wear their hair or makeup however they wanted. I think two of them are going to use my girl for makeup and pay for her themselves, but I just offered that up as an option since she would already be there for me.
  • I had a professional do mine.  It was SO worth it.  It didn't budge, even through my crying, I didn't have any bridesmaids, so that wasn't an issue.

I originally planned on doing my makeup myself.  However, I heard about airbrush makeup and found a very highly recommended MUA in my area who does it.  I talked to her about it and decided that I had to have it done.  I'm sure I'm going to cry at some point on our wedding day, so I love the fact that it won't run.  Plus, several photographers have told me that airbrush is the way to go, as it looks flawless in photos.  The only con is the price - in my area, every MUA I looked into ran around $150 for airbrush.

As far as BMs go, I do not intend on paying for their makeup or requiring them to have it done professionally.  I gave them the option to book appointments with my MUA, but they both chose not to.  They will be doing their makeup themselves.  I will, however, be paying for their hair.

  • Interesting..thanks for your opnions everyone! I guess I was just thinking that not everyone likes getting their makeup done by other people because they have their own styles. But it seems that having quality makeup that will last all day is the major reason for getting it done..thoughts? For those that had it done for themselves and their bridesmaids..did your bridesmaids like it or was it like another thing that they had to do your way??

I've been in weddings where the bride made us have our makeup done professionally.  I hated it.

  • I am DEFINITELY getting mine professionally done... I always do my makeup the same way and I want it to just look amazing on my wedding day.  I am also getting airbrush, I think it makes you look so flawless.  It can be pricey, so I would say that would definitely be a con.  I am very lucky, FI knew a girl from high school who owns her own salon and she is doing everything for me for free!
  • I wanted mine professionally done because I knew I couldn't achieve the look I wanted by myself.  I also wanted for me and my girls to relax and be pampered.

However, this was something I put in my budget from the very beginning so I wasn't worried about being able to pay for it.
  • My entire bridal party and our mothers are getting airbrush makeup. I had my trial and loved it! My girl is doing airbrush and false eyelashes for everyone for $105 per person. In my area that's really good!

  • I planned to have my makeup professionally done, but about a week before the wedding, I discovered my MUA double booked (it was a miscommunication because she assumed I wouldn't need to be ready until later so she booked an earlier wedding, but we were doing first look photos so I needed to be ready earlier than she planned).

I ended up going to Sephora and bought good make-up (about the cost I was going to spend to have it done) and practiced a few looks with the MUA there.  It actually turned out pretty good and I got a lot of compliments.  It was stressful that week before to have to all of a sudden make other arrangements, but it was really easy and stress-free to do it on my wedding day.  Luckily, nothing went wrong with my hair stylist because there's no way in hell I could have pulled that off myself, LOL.

  • I've thought about it also. But we dont have too big of a budget, so i have thought about just going and getting makeup done prior to the wedding a couple times and see what else can be done to me, and then just try and do it myself.

  • I would love to get mine done professionally but I just don't have the budget.  However, I do plan on buying new product and trying different techiniques.

  • Me and my BMs got our makeup professionally done. It looked great and lasted all day.  I gave the girls the option of getting it done and 3 of the 4 did.  As the bride I was never considering doing my own makeup because i wanted to look different from my every day look.

  • I would like too but it is pretty expensive.

  • I'm having mine professionally done. I don't want the stress of trying to do it myself. I find when I'm anxious or stressed I end up having to redo it a few times. I've done this at competition with eyelash glue in my eyes several times. Not good. I was also going to have both my daughters done but my youngest is really good at makeup so she offered to hers and her sisters. She saving me alot of money.
