I don't know if I light airbrush makeup?

First let me start by saying I don't wear foundation on a normal basis. i wear undereye concealer and fountain unnder my eyes and light makeup. I had my airbrush makeup trial today ( #3) The artist is highly recommended. Well, upclose my makeup looks cakey and feels heavy. With a good camera I like my makeup. Everyone says airbrush makeup is light and airy. I don't feel that way at all.

Re: I don't know if I light airbrush makeup?

  • I did an airbrush trial and absolutely hated it, but for the opposite reason. I felt it didn't give me enough coverage after wearing a powder foundation every day. I also had just switched BCP and had some breakouts because of it, so I needed heavier coverage. I felt like I didn't even have makeup on! I think airbrush would look better on people with a really clear complexion.

Bottom line, regardless of what others say about airbrush, if you didn't like how it looked on you, you should go with something else you'll feel comfortable with. If you don't want it to feel super "heavy," I might recommend a powder foundation over a liquid one.

  • I agree with PP, I wanted heavier coverage, so I'm using HD MakeupForever. Definitely go with what is comfortable for you.
I always promote Sephora on these boards because I LOVE their customer service, and they are great for finding a product that fits your needs. That's how I found HD.

It can be tricky.  When I balked that I could still see my freckles, my MUA was very hesitant about applying it too heavily for exactly the reasons you described.  You really have to have an artist that can get it just right.  And like the PP, some feel it's not enough.  In the end my coverage was perfect.

It could also be that you are not used to seeing yourself with so much makeup on, and so it feels "heavy" or "cakey" when reality that isn't really the case.  But the bottom line is, if it's not for you, then go another route.  That is why I always recommend a trial.

  • I found that airbrush brought out all my fine lines - it made me look older.  I hated it.  I am sticking with traditional mup.

Actually i have noticed a lot of brides that get airbrushed look cakey in pictures.
Maybe its just who is doing it.. but go with your gut. if you dont like it go with normal makeup.. maybe you would like something like bare minierals (sp?) insteard?

I didn't have time for a trial but I got the airbrush and mine felt very light. I had two breakouts from my facial that never went away and they weren't covered very well. I felt that regular makeup would've been better but I did like the way my makeup looked.

<div>Was the artist recommended specifically for airbrush?  A lot of fantastic conventional makeup artists decide to add airbrush to their service list because it is in fashion now but don't do any relevant training.  Kits meant for home use are now sold on the shopping channel and in Sephora and a lot of artists are using these and charging a lot of money when they are not actually proficient. </div><div>A good (trained) airbrush artist will use trigger control and adjustments in air pressure to precisely cover blemishes without caking makeup over the whole face.  They will also use different formulas of makeup for different client requests.  For example, if a client wants to completely cover freckles or if they have scarring, a birth mark etc I would use very thin layers of paramedical airbrush makeup which is much more highly pigmented, rather than piling on the regular beauty makeup.</div></div><div>Please don't give up on the airbrush yet, it really is fantastic when done right!</div>
