Hair Trial Tomorrow!

I've got my hair trial tomorrow and as an over planner I'm stressing over what to bring/do.  The trial is at the girl's apartment (she'd be coming to my house the morning of the wedding) and my MOH is coming up from PA to help me make my decision.

The trial is $100, so I was planning on tipping $20, does that sound about right?  If I don't like the first look, will they try something else that day, and if so should I increase the tip?
I'm bringing my veil (wearing only during the ceremony) and a photo of my dress.  I have a few photos of hair I like from the back, but I haven't found a front shot that I like.  I'm going to keep looking today.  Is there anything else I need tio bring?
I wash my hair every 2-3 days, and its due for a wash tomorrow before I go.  My hair is naturally wavy, but it looks messy so I usually blow it straight.  The hair style I'm getting involved long loose curls.  Should I dry it straight or let it air dry wavy?

Thank you for any suggestions!

Re: Hair Trial Tomorrow!

  • Well my trial was supposed to be $75 but as I was driving there they called and they had a miscommunication with the stylist and begged if I could do any other day. They took $20 off the bill so I just told them to charge the $75 and tip her that way.

I took my headband and my veil. For make up she did the eyes twice and switched blush for me. For hair I had her change the bangs then after I left (an hour later ) I realized I hated the bangs and I clipped it myself. Therefore I took a photo of the way I clipped it and am having her do it that way the day of. The only thing I could not locate were my crystal flower things that go in the back of my hair where it's all clipped...but I told her I had those. I did also take a photo of the dress.

Ask about redos. Some do a time limit then charge over the time limit. Mine went a 1/2hr over but they didn't charge me since they cancelled on me last minute the day before as I was driving there.

  • I think the long loose curls would hold better if it wasn't straightened. You can always ask the stylist. When I go for up-dos, my stylist likes me to wash the night before and not straighten. I have a wave to my hair as well. I never went for a trial so I'm not good with tipping.

  • How did your trial go?  I need to start looking for someone in NYC for my wedding but really have no idea how to go about it.

  • Hey Sam stop spamming my post, k?

I used Style by Jen, and I have to say I was really happy with how it went.  I wasn't blown away by her website, but the pricing was right and I really wanted someone who would travel to my house.  She spent two hours curling my hair and putting it back, up, and down in about six different styles to see what I liked best.  The style I ended up liking was one that I wouldn't have predicted I would want, but she was right and it totally worked.
