DIY airbrush makeup

Hi everyone,
I've been looking for makeup artists in the dc area, and it seems like you can't find anyone for less than 200 bucks! and thats just for the day of for the bride, doesn't count the bridal party or any of the trials.

Has anyone done their own makeup, or had a friend to airbrush makeup? I'm considering investing in an airbrush makeup kit and having a friend learn how to use it and do the bridal party's makeup.

good or bad idea? Thanks for your suggestions!

Re: DIY airbrush makeup

  • I've heard the airbrush is very easy to use. I've never tried it but someone suggested to me to get a trial done at Sephora. I still haven't done this yet because I'm just going to have someone do my hair and makeup. $200 is outrageous for just makeup! Have you thought of going to a makeup counter the day of to get your makeup done? Are you comfortable doing your own makeup?

  • Airbrush makeup machines are very expensive- usually in the $200 dollar range so if you don't already own the machine and supplies it's going to cost more to DIY.  Also if you don't know how to do it it could be a disaster.

  • Just a thought- I'm using Dior Airflash (it's around $80).  It's basically an aerosol foundation, fairly heavy coverage (but doesn't look cakey), very long lasting, and easy to apply once you get the hang of it.  Sephora sells it and will show you how to use it.  It might be something to look into.
  • I currently have the Dinair machine and I am sad to say that I am not really loving it.  I think airbrush makeup sounds good but I believe it hasn't been around enough for the products to be perfected.  For instance, most airbrush foundations will not sit on top of a face with a moisturizer, therefore it can be dry for those with aging skin and dry skin.  I have had my foundation look cracking on my face.  It's not pretty.  Another thing is airbrush is suppose to be natural and it does not look natural when you try to get a full coverage.  So it's really only good for a sheer look for those with maybe combination or oily skin.
  • I also have my own Dinair airbrush machine and LOVE IT! I use it on a daily basis, and the little bottles of makeup last longer for me then a botle of foundation would. The $200 initial investment (for the actual machine) is totally worth it if you plan on using the airbrush makeup on a regular basis after your wedding. It works on my skin, which is oily in summer and dry in winter, so no problems either way. It goes on very evenly and is light weight and stays all day, and I mean all day. Even after I go to the gym, its still there. I highly recommend it !
