Total Panic - Should I buy a backup dress?

okay, i'm totally freaking out. i'm having my dress custom made by a designer on etsy. i LOVE the design and love the vendor, but i'm REALLY worried about it not getting here in time to get proper alterations done. i've made an appt at david's bridal to try on some similar dresses there tomorrow. has anyone else bought a backup dress? am i crazy? should i just trust the designer? she knows the wedding date and has been awesome on the whole. but seriously, FULL BLOWN PANIC right now.

That's a tough decision.  If it were me, I'd be freaking out too...but if the designer knows your schedule and knows that you need time to get your dress altered once she's made it, then she should have it finished in time.  Has she told you the completion date?

I'd go with whatever your gut is telling you.

Has the vendor given you any reason to believe she would not have it ready in time?  I agree with going with your gut but if you have been given no reason to worry I wouldnt buy a backup gown if you dont have to.

When do you expect to get your dress?

I would call Becky Fowler and make an alterations appointment today (she can be hard to get an appointment with).  Let her know the situation, and she will give you an honest answer about your time line and if she will be able to help.  She is super sweet and fantastic at alterations.   Her # is 972-986-8067.

I'm considering buying a back up dress.  <eek>

Only because I bought my dress smaller than I am (I had gained some weight prior to the proposal) thinking I'd lose that weight.  We'll I'm on my way to the goal.... and Becky Fowler is putting a corset back in the dress... but I'm still worried.

So.. I understand your panic.  Have you talked to the Etsy designer about your concerns and the delivery time?  They might be able to calm your nerves.

we discussed the date of the wedding in the planning stages and she was fine with it, but we haven't discussed an actual delivery date. i sent her an email this afternoon about it, but she's in frickin' australia (i know, i know. i didn't realize that until i'd already paid the deposit and was in love with the dress), so our communication isn't very quick. that makes it worse on my brain, though, of course.

DB has some cute dresses in the shorter style that i like, so i'm really thinking of getting one and hanging onto it, unaltered, until the last minute. i think my gut will be a lot happier knowing i have SOMETHING to wear, but i hate the idea of not having my dream dress in time.

Another thought,  could you potentially offer to pay a little more to have it delivered earlier than originally agreed upon?  It probably would be cheaper than a whole new dress, and it would calm your nerves I'm sure.

Posted by InfamousQBert[/QUOTE]I think that's a good idea!  Keep the tags on it and if your dress comes in on time, GREAT.  If not, you've got this other dress to wear!  And when your dress does come in (If, God forbid, it doesn't make it in time), you can have after the wedding photo sessions.  That could be really cool too.

okay, thank you all. i was seriously thisclose to hyperventilating here at my desk. now i just have to find some way to pass the next 2.5 hours until i can actually go home. it's so much easier to not freak out when you know you're somewhere safe if you NEED to freak out, you know?

FYI Becky Fowler will be on vacation from August 8th thru the 15th. (For anyone using her in the near future.)
