Half-up/Half-down is a no-go?

I went for my final dress fitting today and I brought a hair clip to put my hair up to mimic the half up/half down do I want for the wedding since I do not like my hair up, it's curly and looks much better down! Well, a consultant came over to me and said "Do not wear your hair like that, that is the most out dated bridal hairstyle"...as she proceeded to go on about it being o.k. in 2006, she also brought over a current catalog and was flipping through to prove her point that no one wears it anymore!!!!  What are your thoughts??

Re: Half-up/Half-down is a no-go?

  • I totally disagree.  Half up is about as classic as you can get.  I wanted to do a side ponytail--but everyone talked me out of it because THAT is the type of hairstyle that will look dated in a few years.

My advice is to consult with an actual HAIR stylist and not with a woman who sells wedding dresses.

  • I agree with stephie, whose hair looks amazing.
  • um i totally disagree with the saleswoman & agree with stephie. maybe it's not the most ''now'' or trendy look in a bridal magazine but that's probably the most popular hairstyle there is because it looks good on a lot of people.. & it is classic.
  • I think if it looks good on you, I would go for it. What does a wedding gown retalier know about hair, she's supposed to be an expert on dresses.

  • Thanks ladies!

  • Uh, totally disagree lol.  I wore my hair half up/half down and loved it.  It's my favorite type of hairstyle for brides.

  • It really depends on what you like and what looks good on you.  One could say that a french twist is outdated, yet people STILL choose to wear them for their wedding. If you can rock it, go for it. She should stick to the dresses, and let your hair stylist determine whats dated and suggest alternatives.
  • As long as it works on your hair, I can't imagine that ever being "out of date". I would look like a stringy greasy mess since my hair is so fine (sigh) but my sister with curly hair did her hair that way this past May and it was gorgeous.

I agree with the PP about the side ponytail, and by extension, the side bun. Really pretty but I bet it could look dated in a few years. Then again, as long as you look beautiful and love it day of, who cares?
  • That's the craziest thing i've ever heard! How can a half up hairdo be "out of style"?? It's the most classic hairstyle, i think. I also don't like my hair up, and will probably be doing a half up/half down curly style.
Look at the first post, stephaniehall. Would you look at her pictures and think, "I can't believe she wore her hair like that, so outdated!" No! You'd say, "Holy cow, she's gorgeous!"
Wear what you like, and you'll feel amazing! That's what counts =)
