Make up Artists and Hair Stylists...

If anyone here is hiring a makeup artist and/or hair stylist for your wedding day, how many did you set up a trial with?

I thought this would be something I could wait to figure out (say 3-4 mos before the wedding) but 8 months out I've contacted 8 make up artists and all but 2 are already booked!

So I guess my question is do I bother going to trials with both or just book the first one I go to as long as the trial run goes well? Any tips/tricks/advice with this aspect of wedding planning is greatly appreciated in!

  • Definitely do a trial!  If you have a preference, book a trial with them first, and if you love it then go ahead and book for the wedding.  If not, continue to shop around.  I loved my first hair trial, so I had no problem putting down the deposit.

FWIW I just booked my hair stylist, and my wedding is only 4 months out.

We still have just over 8 months to go, but I booked my MUA and hair stylist in November. After having trouble with other vendors being available for our wedding, I didn't want to take any chances.  Also, I knew exactly who I wanted to go with, so I didn't shop around at all.

I had my makeup trial already (I'm doing airbrush) and I LOVED it.

I'm not having my hair trial until we're about a month or two from our wedding day.

I would definitely be sure to do trials for both makeup and hair.

  • I would pick one MUA, do a trial and if you like it, book it.  Only bother with a second trial if you don't like the first one.
