Nervous Rash

I'm really worried. I always get the "Nervous Rash" when anything is happening to me. Like for instance yesterday I tried on my wedding dress on for the first time and my chest broke out like none other! When I break out in the Nervous Rash its big bright red blotches all over my chest, arms, and neck!! The blotches won't go away for a long time. My worry is on the big day its going to be ten times worse and I do NOT want this problem. I need help!!!

Re: Nervous Rash

  • My whole chest turns bright red.  I've found it helps if I ignore it and try not to fidle with my necklace and therefore touch it.

If yours is a full blown rash, you may want to look into some sort of calming cream/lotion.
  • Hi,
I know this is a really late post but I have this problem too and have found a few tricks that work:

    1. It is from nerves and the blood vessels dilate. My doctor prescribed a particular type of beta bolcker called propranolol. It is a blood pressure medication, but it also slows your heart rate and has a calming effect. The reason propranolol works especially well for the rash (as opposed to other beta blockers)  is it also blocks blood vessel dilation which helps stop the redness. You MUST try this medication out before the big day. It usually takes about 45-60 min for it to take effect in my experience. So if I am going to be in a very stressful situation, I usually take a prep dose in the AM to prevent the rash from starting, and a dose later about and hour before the big event. I really recommend you talk to your doc, and if they won't listen that this is a major problem for you, go to another. I have not found any topical lotion or calming cream that works.

    2. Alcohol may make the problem worse since it calms you, but also dilates your blood vessels. You should also consider asking the doc for a small anti anxiety prescription just for the day or few days around the wedding. Don't be scared to talk to them about that stuff, they get requests like that for special events/flying often.

    2. self tanner. It helps make the rash less obvious.

    3. airbrush make up all the way down your neck/chest. This makes a big difference.

    4. if all else fails, stand in front of full-blast AC like in the car or use ice packs.

sorry so long- hope this helps.
