Facial?

My MIL kindly offered to take me to a spa with her to get facials the thursday before my wedding (wedding is on saturday). However, I've never had a facial before & I've heard that you shouldn't do something extreme to your skin before your wedding because your skin might get red, dry, etc. Never having a facial before I'm kinda worried, do you think it will be alright?

Re: Facial?

  • From what I've been told, your last pre-wedding facial should be no less than one week before your wedding.

Yeah, the advice we always give here is to do it a week or two before.  But honestly, having had facials for the past year or so now--I don't know if I still hold with that advice.  My skin always looks its best just a day or two after the facial--by a week later, it has definitely gone more back to normal.

Also, I have determined I only break out at one salon.  I've had facials at several now, and only broken out twice from the same place.  They were pretty bad breakouts though and were definitely at their worst a week later.

Oh, and my husband had a facial the day before our wedding and was fine.

So, I guess my advice would be to heed all of this and make your own decision but be advised that most would say don't do it right before.
  • Do a facial trial to see how your skin reacts if you're planning to do one so close to the big day.
My mom and I did facials at home the Wednesday before my Saturday wedding and we both turned bright red! We put sliced cucumbers on our faces for about 15 minutes and the redness went away and our skin looked amazing! We were lucky, but don't be stupid like us!
  • If you never have had a facial before and you are prone to breakouts or congested skin at all, trust me, give yourself 2-3 weeks at least! I have problem, sensitive, breakout prone skin and got my first facial recently.  The extractions made my skin so red, swollen, and the breakouts took forever to heal.  I am also very fair and am prone to hyperpigmentation so that doesn't help either with redness from extractions/breakouts.  So I guess I'm saying if you have problem skin at all, your first facial will be filled with many extractions (if they do them and you choose to have them) that will leave you less than wedding ready initially so be very very cautious.  It is good in the long run to decongest your skin, but it took me a good 2 weeks to heal properly at least.  If you have normal or dry skin with no congestion, than no worries!  Good luck!
