Sephora Make-Up Artists?

Has anyone used them or heard anything about it? I'm getting married in a state/town I don't live in anymore, and none of my people there have any idea who to use, but they do have a Sephora. I talked to one of the workers there and she said it's just a matter of buying $50 of product for the trial and then $50 of product on the day of the wedding. I'm going to talk to them again and hopefully have my trial later this summer. I'm not sure at this point whether I'd have to go to them or whether they'd come to me the day of the wedding.

I guess I'm just wondering if this sounds like a horrible idea. Opinions?

Re: Sephora Make-Up Artists?

  • I got my makeup done there for engagement pics and again today for boudoir pics.
I'm not sure about the money thing, but both times all I had to purchase was a $50 gift card. I ended up buying the lipstick and then the foundation that I wear on a normal basis anyways.
I had different girls both times and both times were EXCELLENT but, yeah, it is somewhat of a crapshoot.
You would probably have to go to them the morning of your wedding. The girl I had today told me that entire wedding parties will come in and get their makeup done, and that it's fairly common.
  • A girl I work with and one of her BM's went to ours and they did a terrible job. Wrong type of foundation (too matte, made her look chalky/powdery), wrong color, big ol' pink stripes for blush and way wrong/too much "contouring" all over the face with a dark orange bronzer (she's very pale). They did get the lipcolor right, though. Her "remedy" for the garish contrast between neck/chest color and the face makeup was to "contour" all the way down.

I took the poor girl directly from Sephora to the ladies at the MAC counter in our local Nordstrom. They fixed her up properly and she bought almost all of the products they put on her. I've also had good success with the Lancome ladies. I'd see if there is a MAC or Lancome anywhere near where you'll be, I'd trust them a lot more than the Sephora ones!
