how to choose?

For a while I've wanted a Maggie Sottero dress. When I went to Elizabeth's bridal they had none in my size, so I tried on a bigger one. It was ok. She showed me some that I really liked but they were way too small. She put me in a Mori Lee, which I really liked the top. It was a little big, but the size was good enough to order it and take it in. I came out and loved the color...the top part...the back...and the detail in the front. She put veils on me and I liked it even more. I left thinking how I wanted to try on one of the Maggie dresses. I went to another salon. I tried on one of them which was small but I could at least get an idea. I loved it! It was so pretty and I felt like a princess. Now I'm stuck. My mom loves both, she's happy with whatever one I get. My dad likes the Mori one cus it's more traditional. The Maggie goes better with our venue. I feel if I get the Maggie, I would regret it and wish I would have gotten the Mori, and vise versa. What to do? The prices are close so that's not an option. It would take 4-6 months for ordering the Maggie which is fine by me cus my wedding is August of next year. I'm going tomorrow to Terry Costa in Dallas to try on one Maggie I saw that was in my top 2. I'm hoping it would change but it will probably make matters worse. What should I do? How do you pick between a couple you like????

Well, it's going to be based on your venue, the formality of your wedding and what you feel like doing.  I have a Maggie dress so I'm slightly biased, but the first dress is soooo dramatic and fabulous!! I vote for that one.

I had to choose between a Maggie dress and a Pronovias dress. I put both of those dresses on at least 10 times.  The I started asking random people in the boutique.  One sweet lady put it best, she said, the Pronovias dress, could be worn anywhere, but in the Maggie, I looked like a bride.  That put it all in perspective for me!  Don't get the dress that you've seen 100 other brides wear b/c it's "tradition".  Get the one that makes you feel like a one of a kind bride!  Good luck and happy choosing!

Were you able to take pictures of you in the dresses? I don't know if this helps, but this is how I decided:

I tried on dresses and liked them all, so my mom took my picture in all the dresses I liked and I went home and didn't think about dresses for a few months. Then I looked back at the pictures and I immediately saw that I looked best in one particular dress.

I agree that you should try to get pics of yourself in the dress.  Personally, I prefer the Victoriana.  It's more dramatic.

Another factor you really need to consider is comfort.  I didn't think of comfort when I got my dress and I'm already wishing I had got something more comfortable.

I have to agree with teampiperjordan.  I bought a maggie dress (I love her things so much!).  And how I ended up deciding was in the dress I got, it was a bridal dress.  I tried on a lot of similar cuts, but they could just have easily been worn to the Oscars (like I'd ever be invited, but still).  They were gorgeous dresses but not necessarily screaming bride.

I love the first one, but you have to love it.  You're the only one who is going to have dress regret.  Your Dad isn't going to thing back in 10 years and think I wish she would've gotten the Mori Lee.

I would not want to wear that Maggie in August.  Or any other hot Saturday that comes along.

I myself got a Mori Lee.  I don't like fussy things and, in my opinion, the Maggie is just too much of a lot of things that I don't care for.  I like simple.  I didn't have to spend most of my day picking up my dress to carry it along with me wherever I went.

I agree that you should go with what you felt more comfortable in, and consider the style of wedding that you're going for. I can't see the pictures in the second link, but the first dress is gorgeous. It just depends on what made you feel best. My choice came down to two Maggie dresses. The first was stunning, but ultimately too big & fancy for my casual wedding. The second time I put my dress on it was no question. It was two sizes too small, but I still felt like a million bucks, yet I could walk around, bend down, laugh, etc. with absolutely no problems. It was honestly more comfortable than the dress I came in wearing. I'm sure you'll be beautiful either way. GL!

Well I must say I am a huge Maggie fan, Vicotoriana is my dress and I couldn't love it more.  That being said, what ever makes you feel more like a bride and what you loved more... which ever dress that is, get it.  I would definitely take pics in it, that will tell you a lot too.  Good luck in your choosing and let us know what you pick out.

P.S.  I can post a pic of me in Victoriana if you would like. :)

I love the Andrea...seems like it flows better - IMO. But it all depends on what you are comfortable in and what fits your body style better. I agree...it's a must to take pictures of yourself in the dresses - that's the only way you will be able to actually "see" the differences side by side. GL!

I agree...it totally depends on the whole style of your wedding and what you're most comfortable in.  Personally, I love the first one and I'm not a fan of the Mori Lee dress at all.  But that's just my opinion.  One thing I found while dress shopping is...be careful not to get too many opinions because they will all cloud your thoughts and make it more difficult for you to decide.

I went to try on a dress that I just knew was "the one."  I loved everything about it.  However it was very big and heavy, even in the store I could barely move.  I still loved it though, loved the beading, the back, everything.

Then there was the one my sister picked out.  It wasn't spectacular like the other one.  It was simple, light and elegant.  But I kept looking at myself, seeing how much it flattered my figure.  I could see myself in my venue wearing it, walking down the aisle, etc.  You could see ME in the dress--not just the dress itself.

And that was the deciding factor for me.  I had to let go of just looking at a dress and seeing myself as a bride actually wearing a dress.  When I realized I actually looked better and more like a bride in the other one, that was when I knew.  It was hard letting go of the other one, but it was the right choice.  HTH.

I like the first one as well, I love MS. I think it just depends on how formal/dramatic you want your dress and when/where it is taking place. If you're having an outdoor wedding you might want to consider the Mori Lee. Personally I like both 1 and 2 better than 3.

Thank you everyone for the comments!! I tried on the Andrea today and I loved it too (I know it doesn't help!) I can't get pictures in the Victoriana because Brides and Baux don't allow cameras (booo!). All the dresses would be great for the Piazza in the Village! It's so elegant and "girly" I guess you can say. It was on WE TV-Platnuim Weddings, so that's why I'm kindda leaning more towards the Maggie ones.

Mandaroo-what color of the Victoriana did you get? Whatever dress I will get I will order in white.

I like # 3 the Andrea the best and I think it would work well with your venue!

They are all lovely dresses.  Go back and try them all on again, take photos (if Brides and Beaux doesnt' allow photos, try another salon that carries this dress), you will know when it's the one.

Lasting Bridal Couture in Addison carries a lot of Maggie dresses and allows photos.  I'd check and see if they have all your dresses.

    This is your answer.

However, if you have mixed feelings then keep looking.  Mine was a Maggie, too.  If you like the Maggie "look" then I suggest going somewhere that has a lot of them and trying several styles.

This. Very well said...I know many girls see the dress but they loose themselves in it. I think it is very important to remember that while the dress is important the person wearing the dress and actually getting married is more important. I always wanted people to see me and have the dress make me "shine" more - being a bride is the goal...not a model.
