Nail Pros Come here!

I've done Shellac/Gel manicure every two weeks for over a year by the same nail tech. They always last the whole two weeks. The only reason I don't go three or four weeks in between is because my nails grow crazy fast and I have outgrowth. The last two times I  got them done, the polish peeled off within a week. First time it was a red color and then I tried a light pink and it still peeled. No problems before, what could be up?

  • They may have changed the brand that they use to something cheaper. Ask about it. If they don't give you an answer you like, I think it's time to try a new place.. one week for shellac seems a little ridiculous

Thank you. I asked and she said they didn't change the product. It's a very good friend that does them, so I trust her. I wonder if it's something with my nails or if OPI changed ingredients?
  • Could be that OPI changed a base in their ingredient... But if that's the case, then you're going to continue to have this problem with that brand.

Are you sure you haven't changed up your diet at all? Are you suddenly eating/drinking something with more calcium, zinc, or vitamin b (more energy drinks lately? More milk in your coffee? etc...)
I ask because those are things that make your nails stronger, but also shinier and slicker. Because of the shiny/slickness, the nail polish can chip more easily (I know.. it's a catch 22 really).
Maybe she could rough your nails up a little more with the file to give the polish a little more to "grab" onto?
