typical lifespan of a no-chip manicure?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of getting a no-chip manicure, and am hoping that the strength of the polish will let me get my nails done further in advance (thus saving precious time in the 48-72 hours prior to my wedding); however, I've never had one before.

I'd welcome others feedback on how long their no-chip manicure lasted before looking less than stellar.

thank you!! :-)

Re: typical lifespan of a no-chip manicure?

  • I got one for my friend's wedding and they said it would last 2 weeks... try 2 days. I was putting my makeup on for her wedding and a piece chipped off.  Lucky we had time to fix it but I was bummed.

I'd ask the salon if they have a guarantee so you could at least get your money back if something went wrong.
  • I use gelish(I actually do it at home) and I get 2 weeks without chipping, I'd think you'd be fine doing it 3-4 days in advance =)

  • I get shellac manicures, not sure if that's the same thing as no-chip manicure, and it lasts a good week and a half.  I'm pretty rough with my hands and nails too.  I got a french shellac manicure last Tuesday and they still look pretty good to me with no chipping.  I think you will be fine 3-4 days in advance and even if something did happen to one or two fingers, it wouldn't take much time for them to repair it.

  • I've had Shellac and OPI color gel, I get them all the time because they last 2 weeks!  Occasionally I've tried new places that probably did not do them right and they didn't last the full 2 weeks, but if done right they should never chip.  I'd find a nail salon and get them done at least once or twice before your wedding to double check the quality of their work.  If done properly you can absolutely go a few days before the wedding to get them done.  I plan to do just that as well!

  • The shellac and the gel manicures work really well!  It does depend a lot on the technician's work too!  I've had one done in a hurry (no thanks to the nail tech!) and it lasted a few days before chipping.  I've had others that have stayed on and not chipped at all!  The only reason I had to take them off is because my nails were growing out the polish!

I agree with the PP's here, 3-4 days should be fine, regardless. :)
