Tanning Before Wedding

So, I don't typically tan at a salon. I usually lay out, but not a whole lot, because I tan naturally well. I have had a spray tan in the past, and although I love them, I am concerned about getting the color on my dress. I have gone to nice places for a spray tan, and it still ends up on my clothing, sheets, etc. I just would rather not have to worry about that possibility.

Anyways, I'd really love to start tanning a little bit before my wedding, which is Sept. 1st. About how long before should I start going to the salon? Like I said, I have gone there maybe twice in my life, for proms when I was younger, so I'm a newbie to the tanning salon thing. Is there a particular salon that's better than another? I heard Sun Capsule was the best, but I don't really know. Is a bed or a booth better? Anything else I should know? I don't want to be dark, but definitely want to have a nice color.

Thanks so much!

Re: Tanning Before Wedding

  • I haven't used the spray tans before but I tanned in the bed regularly in High School. Now I use a self-tanner that I am in love with called California North Titanium Self Tanner- its around $30 a bottle.
It doesn't have the nasty self-tanner smell that comes with most of them, once you let it dry for 20-30 minutes it doesnt rub off, gradually builds up so it doesn't ever look orange or streaky, and it actually moisturises as well. I have very sensetive facial skin and it actually does BETTER with this stuff than my regular facial lotion.
To each their own, but I try to stay away from the beds & laying out as much as I can, my family has a bad history of skin cancers.

[QUOTE]Thanks ladies. I appreciate all your advice! I definitely know how bad tanning beds are for you, and like I said, I have only gone like 2x in my life. I know it doesn't take a lot to cause problems. I will reconsider spray tans as well. I have had a number of spray tans, and I haven't had the greatest of experiences. So, do I just ask them to not use bronzer in the tan? I will try it out a few times before I do it for the wedding, of course. <strong>Have any of you done something like a "salt glow?"</strong> The salon near me does something like that where they exfoliate your skin and then put on a special fake tanning lotion. I don't know how that works, and since it's $80, I'd like to know before I try it out! :) If it works, I would definitely do that before getting in a tanning bed/booth. I agree with all of you about the tanning concerns...I just don't want to be a ghost on my wedding day, and didn't want to get color on my dress, but now that some of you have told me about the bronzer and stuff, I will look into that! Thanks! What about self-tanner that they sell in Ulta or Sephora? Anyone recommend anything good to keep up with the spray tans?

Sheesh I wrote a whole post and it disappeared!  I did try a salt glow before my wedding but I didn't think it was enough color.  It was very light, almost nothing.  So I just decided to get a spray tan.

Another option is an airbrush tan where a person sprays you instead of a machine.  This is usually what I recommend.
  • i bought the gradual tanning lotion by jergens for medium skin. with everyday use, i have developed really pretty sun-kissed color in between 1 and 2 weeks. you could use it a couple months before the wedding, and if you like the color, just continue use to maintain it. if it's not enough, then  you can get a spray tan or whatever. i love to spray tan, but the color i got with this lotion was more even and natural looking.
