Dark circles/Concealer

I have always had dark circles under my eyes and (of course) they get worse when I'm tired. I can never completely cover them - concealer just lightens them A LITTLE.  I really dislike this about myself, but generally I have learned to live with it. I really don't want dark circles on my wedding day, though. My mom's advice was to sleep lol, but that's not always an option. I'm sure I will have a hard time getting my mind to shut down the night before my wedding to be able to sleep. So...do any of you know of any products that work to lessen them? Or at least a good concealer that's not expensive?

  • I went to Sephora and they gave me a sample of a really expensive concealer that works amazing.  Maybe you could just go there and get the sample - just tell them that you want to try it out before you buy it and they should give you the sample.  Also, to get some sleep on the night before, just take some Melatonin (sp?); it's non addictive and all natural and will help you fall asleep and stay asleep.  That's what I will have to take to get some sleep.  HTH

  • The MUA who is doing my wedding makeup recently recommended MAC Fast Response Eye Cream.  I've been using it for about a week now and I've seen a big improvement.  It's $30 at Macy's.

  • Have you played around with different shades of concealer? Perhaps a yellow concealer would work better for you. I'm assuming that you're asking because you plan on doing your makeup yourself. Really, a MUA shouldn't have a problem covering them.

</div><div>Melatonin will help you fall asleep and stay asleep when you're worried about the wedding and you won't wake up with that groggy or half asleep feeling.  It's the same chemical produced by your brain that tells you it's time for bed.  As for your dark circles, try Benefit's Boi-ing. It's $19 and you can try it at Sephora or Macy's before you buy.

  • I have Boi-ing and it's a great concealer, but for under eye circles, I would strongly and HIGHLY recommend Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.  It's $35 at Sephora and has 2 concealers in it, a lighter one to do the eyes and a darker one to blend.  I love this stuff and it's also really popular among the professional MUA.  Or try Make Up Forever HD concealer kit, it's also $35 and you get 5 colors to blend with.
  • rlavach, I hope to do my own make-up. I'm on a very tight budget so I'm working now to try and figure something out. Thank you all for the suggestions!

  • My circles are bad and a makeup artist  suggested mineral makeup.. It is the best thing I have found so far, you just have to get the right shade!
  • For dark under eye circles, you want to use a creamy yellow toned concealer - not the same stuff you use for any blemishes on your face. The yellow balances out the purple shade of under eye circles.

Erase Paste by benefit (sold at Sephora) is incredible. It's a small container and a bit pricey, but you don't need to use much at all for it to cover really well. I have RIDICULOUS dark circles on my pale skin, and Erase Paste always covers it and lasts for a very long time.
  • Yellow can balance it out, but so can some orange or red.  What I do to clinets is rub some red lipliner onto the back of my hand and mix it with some concealer.  The orangey color that develops will cancel out the blueish tone under the eyes.

A good concealer is MAC's studio fix concealer.  Its a consistent good one that I always come back to.  Their fast response cream works best for puffy eyes, not so much dark undercircles.
  • Oh my.  These answers make me nervous.  The correct thing you need is a corrector, or PEACH based concealer.

As mentioned, Erase Paste is excellent as is Bobbi Brown's corrector.

Many people mentioned very thick skin colored concelars that will only emphasize and crease under the eye.
